Feeling Keen in Green! Pleasant Street Celebrates a School Spirit Day :-)

Everyone enjoys having a little fun! Our student council hosted a school spirit day on Saint Patrick's day inviting everyone to wear green. There were lots of participants so we tried to capture everyone on camera for our short video that is linked below.

Making Oobleck in Kindergarten! Try this at home...your children will love it!

Kindergarten students had a great time making Oobleck as part of their month long celebration and study of Dr. Seuss. To try this at home, you simply need a box of cornstarch, water, and a little optional food coloring. You can experiment with proportions to adjust the consistency of the Oobleck mixture.

Spring Picture Day- March 24th

News from Lifetouch School Portraits our school photography company.
Picture Day: Tuesday, March 24

Flyers have been delivered to the school and were sent home with your child. Select your favorite background and return on Picture Day.

Make Picture Day easy with these tips from Lifetouch School Portraits:
• Choose clothing with solid colors or simple patterns.
• Avoid clothing with slogans and logos.
• Long-sleeved shirts are best.

MCAS Begins on March 25th

Dear Families,

Our fourth graders will have their first session of the English language arts reading comprehension test on this Wednesday March 25th! We will then participate in MCAS testing from March 30-April 2 with respective sessions for grades 3 and 4.

A letter went home last week detailing upcoming MCAS administration dates by grade as well as tips for families on helping your child do his or her best. Punctual school attendance is always important but especially during the testing window. The notices are attached below as well as a link to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary Education website for your convenience and reference. If you have any questions about the MCAS administration please contact the school office.

Student Council Report

Meeting Minutes- March 10th

We have 29 members

Today at our school council meeting we talked about student council doing a Friday Friendship table in the cafeteria. We had a meeting on Thursday and made MCAS posters. We also talked about doing a suggestion box in the lobby so other grades can suggest things for Student Council to do. We will also be doing an Easter "guesstimation" bowl.

Notes taken by Madison G.

Update: Pictured to the right is our first Friday Friendship table.

Tribute to our Crossing Guards!

We want to thank Mrs. Vitello (pictured here), as well as Mrs. Chauvette, and Ms. Deveneau, for safeguarding children each day in the bitter cold, rain, wind, and soon enough, blazing heat. They are always there! We also want to remind families of the importance of following crossing guard directions and expecting the same from your children.

Mr. Vaidulas in Action!

Mr. Vaidulas, who is a retired former Pleasant Street Principal, will be in coming in to cover for Principal Ellis on a few different days over the coming months. Mrs. Ellis has some scheduled events that will take her out of the building. Mr. V, as he is known by students, loves to spend time in classes, reading and working with students.

It's time to send in those Boxtops you have been saving!

If you are like Principal Ellis you have a little plastic bag of Boxtops set aside to bring into school. Well, it's time to send in that collection and start a new one! Our Parent/Teacher Organization uses monies raised from Boxtops to support school enrichment projects including classroom subscriptions to the Scholastic news and for updates to our playground equipment.
