#ChasingGreatness
Sorry! I had last week's done and thought I sent on Saturday last week
Be the reason someone smiles!
A simple, yet profound gesture goes a long way. Each and every day we have students and peers who have what one thoughtful colleague mentioned to me was called "invisible baggage".
You never know what people have gone through, are going through, or what is to come. A simple hello, how are you, or laugh can really make a difference in the lives of those around us.
Child Abuse Reporting
Module 1 of Child Abuse Safe Schools Training to be completed by October 28. (see LaRhonda's email)
How to report suspected child abuse or neglect:
1. The contact information for Department of Human Services (DHS)
To report suspected child abuse or neglect in Cabarrus County, contact the Department of Human Services @ 704.920-2277 or 704.920-1400. After hours/weekends/holidays, contact: Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Dept. @ 704.920-3000 or Concord Police Dept. @ 704-920-5000
2. The form you could use to gather student information prior to making a report. (That form is attached to LaRhonda's email)
3. The form you use to document student concerns. You have concerns but they are not quite enough to make a report but could lead to a report in the future. (That form is attached to LaRhonda's email)
4. Here is the DHS online reporting form. https://www.cabarruscounty.us/resources/child-protective-services-intake
5. School Social Worker- Bryson Schedule and contact information
Please complete the CCS Child Abuse Reporting-Best Practices module and quiz in the Safe Schools Training Portal by October 28, 2019. This was provided in LaRhonda's emails.

Need CEUs? A message from HR
If staff members are looking for ideas for getting credits for their licensure, we have a place on the HR website that they can go to for ideas.
On the HR licensure page, underneath the table of credits is a link “if I am short on credits where can I go?”
When they click on this link we have a working document with ideas of free resources.
The direct link to this page is: https://www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/Page/75192 if you want to share it with anyone.
Also, be sure to check periodically your licensure status and the amount that you need for renewal.

Fall Festival - 10th Anniversary Celebration - Saturday, November 2
Staff will earn Flex Time for participation. The proceeds will be used to support each grade levels field trips. Please be sure we have strong participation from each grade level. Encore, please plan on supporting, too, if you can - for every dollar that is saved via this money, it is one less that is taken out of school money that can go to others thing.
If you haven't done so yet, please let April know who your grade level rep on the planning committee will be.
Each grade level/encore has also agreed to put together a basket for the silent auction. If you have any questions, please see your grade level representative on the planning committee or April Wingler

Hometown Heroes Luncheon! Taken from Ms. Hammond's Email
Each Fall we invite our local Hometown Heroes (Police, Fire Department, and EMT) to join our students and staff for lunch at Hickory Ridge Middle. This has become a meaningful event for our Maverick Community! However, it has also become more of an undertaking than one person can handle.
This year the event will take place on Wednesday, October 23rd from 11:15 – 1:30 in the Media Center.
Please see this form for ways you can help with the event!
