Hello BHE Families:

Can you believe we only have 8 days left of school? We will have our last full week next week. Next Friday's Eagle Update will be the last regular Eagle Update. I will continue to send our periodic updates over the summer as needed.

This week, please see the important information below regarding Student Devices. Mrs. Ewing sent this home with every student but we know that papers can get lost :). Please review the information and reach out to her with any questions.

If you have not registered your child for the 21-22 school year, please see the information below to complete that process. We only have 70% of our students registered online and our goal is 100%. If you have questions about the process or want to double check that you've registered, please contact our wonderful registrar, Cindy Reyes at 512-414-2013 or cindy.reyes@austinisd.org.     Missing Leveled Readers

    Hello from the reading room! Our literacy library has taken a big hit during the pandemic (just like our library), and we are missing quite a few leveled readers from our sets. Many of our missing readers are from Kinder and First grade levels- from the end of last year. Unfortunately, these “specialty” books cost a lot of money, even though they really don’t look like much. They come in sets of 6 so that our teachers can check them out and use them for guided reading in the classroom, but many of our sets are missing readers. I suspect many of these missing books have been forgotten since we shut down last Spring, and you may have one or more hiding in your collections at home. You can recognize these books by the following characteristics;

    • Smaller, thinner size
    • Publishing company info on the cover
    • May have a stamp inside the cover with BHE info
    • May have hand-written numbers (levels) on top corners
    • (see example picture below)

    There are also some chapter books that are missing that may just have the stamp on the inside covers. If you come across these readers at home please return them ASAP to the school- either to your child’s teacher, or to the black plastic bucket outside the front door of the school. Thanks so much for your help!!!

    AISD Library Media Services is pleased to share the Buford the Book Bus schedule for 2021! Buford visits AISD campuses each summer to provide free, new, high-interest books for kids of all ages, from babies to teens. This summer, Buford and the Austin Public Library’s Bookmobile will both distribute free books on Thursdays at selected AISD weekly meal distribution sites.     The book distributions with Buford the Book Bus and APL’s Bookmobile are community events! All students are welcome, The events will be outside and we will follow all current safety protocols.

    AISD Youth Art Month


    With a “remix” of our theme from last year, this virtual exhibit reflects how artwork acts as a mirror, allowing us to see other’s lives reflected in our own. The student work in this virtual show reflects the lives of our young artists, families, and teachers who have continued to use their creative skills to share glimpses into their worlds during a pandemic.

    We look forward to standing in awe before actual student artwork again soon. In the meantime, our 2021 celebration of student artists are on display at the link below:


    For K-2nd Grade Parents

    The Austin ISD Health and PE Department has been working on revising the K-2 Human Sexuality and Responsibility (HSR) curriculum for the 2021-2022 school year. Your feedback is important to guide this work.

    There is a parent survey that is open for your feedback and will be used by Austin ISD to make any necessary changes to the draft K-2 lessons over the summer. The survey will include all documents and will be open from May 10 - May 28, 2021. Your child’s Student ID number is required as the login. Click on K-2 Human Sexuality Parent Survey to begin the survey.

    Summer Meals for Children and Caregivers

    This summer, AISD will continue to provide free meals for children and caregivers.

    How families may locate AISD summer meal sites in their area:

    • Text FOOD or COMIDA to 512-229-9110.

    • View all sites and service times on the AISD website.

    Meals are free for any child younger than 19 and those older than 19 who utilize special education resources or who are enrolled in school to complete the requirements for a high school diploma.

    Families will have the option of picking up daily to-go meals at more than 40 designated summer program sites or weekly meal packs at 30 curbside locations. Parents or caregivers may receive meals without children present by providing documentation — such as a birth certificate, student ID card, report card, or attendance record — at the meal service site. Children do not have to be enrolled in AISD to receive meals.

    AISD will also provide free caregiver meals prepared by local restaurants, adults with accompanying children, or the documentation listed above at weekly curbside meal sites. Caregiver meals are not available during daily to-go meal distribution.

    All AISD meal sites will be closed July 5-9. Food is available until all meals are distributed.

    Meal sites and times are subject to change.

    If Your Chid is Returning to School In Person: Before You Arrive to School Everyday:

    When You Arrive at School

    Arrival and Dismissal Protocols/Procedure Reminders


    • All students must have their temperatures checked prior to entering the building. If they are arriving by car the temp checks are done in the car before they exit. If they arrive by bike or walking, the screening is done by the main doors.
    • Please complete the COVID-19 Screener for each students before arriving on campus. If you have more than one student, you can screenshot the "green" screen. The Screener must show the student name - not the parent name. See pictures below if you are unsure what the app looks like. You will need your students ID number. This is the same as their "s" number - just without the "s". You can also find their ID number from your parent cloud account.
    • Everyone must wear a mask- we ask that even in the cars, adults wear masks for safety of the screeners.
    • Please do not pull around the car line.
    • Do not drop off students in the parking lot or pull through the parking lot to avoid the screening line.
    • On cold mornings, it is helpful to turn off the car heater - when students sit under the car heater it impacts their temperature :)
    • Arrive by 7:40 to complete the screening and allow enough time for your student to walk to class, unpack their things, and be prepared for the start of the classes opening activities/Zoom meeting.
    • If you arrive after the screeners have gone inside, you will need to call the front office and we will have to come out to you. Because this requires additional time, we respectfully ask that you arrive no later than 7:40.


    To enhance our dismissal procedures, and help us maintain better social distancing we are going to be more rigorous with our staggered dismissal times. You can help by waiting to come pickup your student (or getting in the pick up line) until your grade level dismissal time.

    2:45 - all siblings (in different grade levels) and EAC bus riders will be called to the cafeteria

    2:50 we will begin dismissing siblings and EAC bus riders in the front of the building

    3:00 - we will dismiss Kinder, First and Fifth graders in the front of the building

    3:00 - we will dismiss Second, Third, Fourth, and Sixth graders on the north side of the property off of Briarcrest Drive (where they have been dismissing)

    If you are walking up to pick up your child, please do not walk up to the class/classroom teacher. Please stay on the sides of the covered walkway and we will bring (or send) your child. to you.

    Breakfast and Lunch

    Free breakfast and lunch will be available daily to all students. Breakfast is served in the classrooms. If your child will want breakfast at school, please let your child's teacher know so they can be sure to add them to the "count." Lunch is served daily. There is a set menu and no a la carte menu items (single milks, single menu items, snacks, etc.). When the weather is nice and we are able, we will plan to picnic outside on the large rocks above the blacktop. When we are unable to eat outside we will be in the cafeteria at the cafeteria tables with distanced seating (as possible) and plexiglass barriers on the tables.

    Browser History Reminders

    Please note and remind your children their browser history can’t be cleared. Remind students that their browser history on an Austin ISD device cannot be cleared. Anyone who opens history on their device will be able to see students’ search history, along with dates and times.

    Dogs on Campus

    We respectfully request that dogs not accompany you or your child to school for arrival or dismissal. While your dog may be the best for your family, not everyone is comfortable around them and and not all dogs do well in the arrival/dismissal setting. Thank you so much!

    How to Check Status on District Systems

    AISD’s technology team has launched a webpage that allows school communities to check the status of district systems such as the cloud and portal, as well as Accelify, School Messenger, and Zoom, at www.austinisd.org/technology/status.
