Have a Great Weekend!
Dear Kennebunk High School Families:
I hope that everyone has had a fantastic week. State testing is next week. Please make sure you are familiar with the information. I will also be sending out a separate letter.
Enjoy your weekend.
Parking Permits:
Students must register their vehicles with Officer Champlin. Each car should display a parking permit at school each day. In a recent check less than half of the cars in the parking lot displayed the permit. Please make sure to follow through on this request. Any questions please contact Officer Jason Champlin. Thank you!
Identification:
When entering the building during school hours visitors will be required to scan their license into our Indent-a-Kid software. This is a precaution that all schools are required to abide by.

State of Maine Testing
9th grade: NWEA
10th grade: the Maine Through Year Assessment - NWEA
11th grade: Science
Students in these grades must participate. The great news is that once they are done their testing the students may go home. Because, these tests are so important we have made this the only thing that the students need to do on this particular day. It's important for students to take this seriously and try their hardest. In the fall - the students did an amazing job and we are looking forward to the same effort!
Students in grade 12 who are not participating in a Senior Project are not required to attend on this day.
Any questions please feel free to reach out.
Courtyard Update
The materials for the project are being brought in this week and construction will be underway next week. The plan is to create a quiet reflection space, a greenhouse, a garden, an outdoor classroom, and a mural all with lots of plants and flowers to brighten the space.
The project should be nearly done by the end of June, but we will need your help to make this happen. In the coming weeks, we will need help moving materials into the courtyard. We will be giving community service hours to anyone who would like to help. Please reach out to 24mmuse@rsu21.net or 24apeterson@rsu21.net if you would like to get some community service hours.
We know you all have been waiting for this project to get going and we really appreciate all of your patience and support! Thank you and we hope you are just as excited as we are!!
It's Telegrad Time
Send a Telegrad Letter to a Class of 2023 Student!
Please read the message below for more information. Our hope is for all of our graduates to feel supported and confident as they make this transition to the next phase in their lives. This well-loved tradition gives relatives, community members, and friends a way to positively impact our graduates' special day, so please share this information with as many people as possible. (Also, please emphasize that NO MONEY OR GIFT CARDS or anything of value should be included with the Telegrad.) Following Project Graduation, each graduate will be given an envelope with the correspondence collected for them. Students who do not attend Project Graduation will be able to pick up their envelopes at KHS on Monday 6/5.
Class of 2023 family members, coaches, friends, and community members:

Your Telegrad letter can be any length or printed format– a card, poem, song lyrics, quote, or heartfelt letter are great options. The only requirements are that the Telegrad is positive and encouraging, includes no money or gifts, and will fit in a 9x12 envelope.

Final Exam Important Details
Buses will run at their normal times to and from school. After the last exam each day at 11:45, there will be four buses that will follow the late bus routes. The buses will have signs for what area they are covering.
The regular after-school buses will also do a quick drive-through around 2:00 p.m. There will be no late buses at 4 PM for this week.
Students do not have to be in attendance if they do not have an exam scheduled. The library will be open for quiet study. The cafeteria will also be open.
Students who have two exams in one day are required to stay at school during the break. They may not leave school and return. If teachers administer an exam, it will count for 10% of the semester average.
Sneaker Recycling Campaign
Sneaker Recycling Campaign
Plastic from sneakers can take up to 30-40 years to decompose in landfills. Just in the United States over 200 million pairs of shoes and sneakers end up in landfills.
Community Outreach Services (COS) is hosting a sneaker recycling campaign. Please bring in your old or worn sneakers and COS will be paid directly for them by a recycling company that will reuse the rubber from them. These funds will go directly to the COS Community Food Bank and Fuel Assistance Program.
Your help is needed to keep unwanted sneakers out of the landfills! How can you help? Please bring in your old/worn sneakers into KHS. Donation boxes are located in the KHS Main Lobby and outside the Athletic Office.
Our goal is to collect at least 1500 pairs of sneakers between now and the end of the school year.
Class of 2023
On March 29, information about Project Graduation was emailed home. If you and/or your student did not already read the informational handout, you can do so here.
Attention Parents/Guardians:
Unbelievably, Graduation is right around the corner! In the coming weeks, we will post important updates in a variety of places: via email, in the weekly KHS newsletter, on the Class of 2023 website, and on the RSU21 Class of 2023 Parent Group Facebook page (parent-run). Please see below for our current news:To communicate with the senior class, we have created a Class of 2023 Google Classroom to post announcements. Please remind your seniors to join our Google Classroom if they have not already done so and to check their email daily
Graduation will take place on Sunday, June 4th at 10 a.m. The ceremony typically lasts about 1-1.5 hours.
New this year, Project Graduation will not begin immediately following the Graduation ceremony. Instead, students who are participating in Project Graduation will be allowed to go home after the ceremony to change, rest, and spend time with family.
More details will be forthcoming, but students participating in Project Graduation will need to be back at the high school by 3:15 p.m. on June 4th; buses will depart promptly by 4 p.m. for a reservation at our first (secret!) location.
For more information about Project Graduation, please read this informational handout.
