Service Learning Project Update:
Mrs. Hartman's class made Valentine's for people who are unable to get out.
Our Little Scouts made 'love mats' (dinner place mats) for residents in a nursing home to enjoy.
Also, please mark your calendar for a FAMILY SERVICE Project- March 25 from 10-11, we will do a parade of playgrounds (school grounds) and band together to pick up trash on the campuses of other schools. We will try to get to two locations on that day. Please know, this is a FAMILY event, so no school supervision or transportation is provided. Please come and stay with your student to serve our community as a household. CES will provide trash bags and gloves. More information will be coming.
Coming Up:
Science Fair: This month, we will wrap up 3rd quarter (can't believe it!) and head out to spring break. The week of 3/27 is our science fair week. All students at Canon Exploratory participate in the science fair. Kinder through 6th grade complete a science fair project and our middle school students are the judges for our kinder science fair. Each Community will have an assigned science fair day. Qualifying scores will be sent to the district science fair in April. A science fair guideline packet and timeline packet were sent home earlier in February. Please reach out to your student's teacher with any questions.
CMAS:
Please mark your calendars. Grades 3-8 will be engaging in CMAS testing during the window of April 10-28. What does that look like? Will be child be testing everyday during that time? Why does CMAS matter?
Here is why we value CMAS:
CMAS offers us feedback on general trends. Where are there holes in our curriculum or instruction? Do we need to do more work with fractions (I can hear many of you parents thinking, please, no more fractions...or is that just me? lol). Where are we strong- what does instruction look like in the areas we are strong? What does instruction/resources look like in areas we need growth? These are the types of trends and information that we can glean and adjust our instruction accordingly.
CMAS also offers us a quick snapshot of how your student is performing. Do we think this is the whole picture? Absolutely not. We know that this is the ideal way for every child to demonstrate knowledge, but it is still helpful for us to see this picture.
Here's a quick run down:
3-4 graders will be taking two sessions per day on T/W/Th of week 1. 5-8 will be testing 1 session per day T/W/Th for weeks 1 and 2. Grades 5 and 8 will have a second session each day during week 2.
Here's what we need from you:
Please have your students in attendance.
If your child eats breakfast at home, please make sure they have eaten. If they eat here at school, that's great too!
Please join us in talking to your child about the importance of testing.
