October is a busy month here at the O'Donnell Middle School. Included in this edition of the OMS Community Newsletter you will find lots of information on what has been happening around the school and what is coming up soon.
Start with Hello Week
OMS is one of hundreds of schools across the country to participate in "Start with Hello" week. A concept created by the Sandy Hook Promise organization, Start with Hello week is a weeklong commitment to make others feel seen, reach out and connect with all school community members, and help create a community where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
At OMS, we had a special welcome to kick off the week with some of our 8th grade band members greeting students and staff at morning arrival with some music. We took a moment for students to recognize and thank the upstanders and trusted adults in our school community. And we ended the week with students signing a pledge to foster a school community where everyone feels welcome and connected.

OMS students are...Ready, Responsible, and Respectful!
A big part of our getting "back to normal" school year involved team meetings to set clear expectations for behavior in all parts of the school: the hallways, the cafetorium, the restrooms, arrival/dismissal, and building-wide.
All of these expectations focus on three key traits we are trying to emphasize for every OMS student. OMS students will be ready, responsible, and respectful. These common, building-wide expectations have always been a part of being a successful middle schooler, and the launch of the newly revised expectations is also a big part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) at OMS.
After the team meetings, we reinforced these expectations in our first Knight Time advisory of the year. We are recognizing students who exhibit these three traits at school. Students have received recognition cards, an OMS pencil, and a shout out on the OMS Knightly News.
Each team is also recognizing five "Students of the Month" each month for consistently demonstrating these three traits. These students get a Daddy's Dairy gift card and their photos are displayed in the main lobby for the month!
