International Night/Open House A Success!!

This has been a very busy year for the freshman teams. Some of the great events that took place include Field Day, A Magic Show with hypnotist Frank Santos, and a trip with Team 2 to the Boston Museum of Science. In addition, the freshmen class has consistently had the highest attendance rate this year of all the classes!!! The Class of 2016 ROCKS!!

On June 3, a group of Chinese Students from Hengshui High School will arrive here in Pawtucket to experience our culture. They will be connecting with host families and also will participate in a Welcoming Ceremony with Mr. Wilk, Principal Miller and Mr. Connolly. They will also go on various and assorted field trips throughout their stay within the state. In addition, they will visit landmarks and executive offices of state and local government. If there are any questions, please contact Mr. Wilk or Mr. Connolly at Shea High School at 729-6474. We can't wait to welcome them to our community!

News from the Art Department
Students in Shea's Photography Club recently had their work exhibited at the Mill Gallery in Pawtucket, as well as the Atrium and Red Eye Galleries at the RI School of Design.
Mr. Shea and Mrs. Charpentier's students took a campus tour of the RI School of Design on April 24 and 25.
Any students interested in "Community Service Hours" please see Mrs. Charpentier or Mr. Shea.
The Art Club currently has members working on visual art pieces and murals. The Art Department is looking for students interested in painting/beautifying our school.
Currently Shea has 6 students participating in the RISD POD (Project Open Door) which meets Saturday mornings from 9-12. This program is designed to help inner city students who are interested in art.

STUDENT RECOGNITION!!
Congratulations to Patience Adegboyega who competed in the RI Urban League State Championship. She won one a "Best Speaker" award. In addition, her team came in second place. As a Freshman, this is very impressive, since she is competing against other students that have been debating for years! Way to go Patience!!!
And finally, congratulations to Valentina Butirica, a Shea sophomore who was recently accepted into the Harvard Secondary School Program. The program provides high school students with a real college like experience as well as an opportunity to earn college credit taking Harvard University courses and explore subjects not available at the high school level.

Great Shea Field Trips
On Wednesday, April 24, a group of students from Shea attended the RI Construction Career Day. This day provided students with a hands-on experience with construction equipment and a chance to interact with industry professionals as they learned about transportation and construction career options. Students were also able to explore educational opportunities.
