Monthly Newsletter- November
October 25th, 2023
Message from The Principal
Feeling Grateful
As we transition into November, I want to express my gratitude to our Wildcat community for your ongoing support of our school, students, and staff. Your involvement in your child's education is invaluable, and it truly makes a difference in their academic journey.
Our teachers also appreciate your partnership and are busy preparing for parent-teacher conferences in the coming weeks. This is an opportunity for meaningful conversations about your child's performance and progress at school.
Updates to the newsletter
At the start of the school year, we gathered feedback from our families to help us update our Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy and heard from families the need for recommended strategies to support their child's progress at home. As a result, we are making changes to the monthly newsletter to include tips for families on ways to support your child’s academic, social, and emotional progress at home. We hope this new structure is helpful to our Wildcat families.
Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of educating your children. Our students continue to impress us with their curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning.
Wishing all of our Wildcats a joyful November filled with gratitude!

Tips for Supporting Your Student at Home
Reading
Did you know that one of the single greatest factors in student achievement is reading at home? Talking with your child about what you are reading at home is equally important. Talking while you read is simply having conversations about what you are reading. Having conversations about books will help your child become a better reader because it will develop your child’s vocabulary and knowledge about the topics of those books. Whether you are reading a fairy tale, a picture book, an informational book, or any other text, you can engage in a discussion as you enjoy reading together.
- Use the CROWD strategy to support you in talking with your child about the text they are reading

Vocabulary and Expression
A simple way to connect language development and expression is to have your student practice vocabulary and expression skills in every day activities.
- Use this quick strategy to incorporate Talking and Reading in the Kitchen
Kids and Social Media
Some elementary students are getting involved in social media, texting and apps that allow for group chats and posts. This is often a complex issue for both children and parents to navigate.
Below are a few guidelines that might be helpful when this topic comes up with your child.
1. Consider your child’s maturity level.
2. If your child is ready for texting, messaging apps or social media then agree on boundaries. Have a conversation with your child about how to make it a positive experience. Discuss the potential negatives too, such as how her posts will affect others and how others' posts might affect her. Discuss with your child your own family values and what is and isn’t okay to put on social media. Make sure your child knows to alert you to any posts she sees that are of concern to her.
3. Let your child know you will be joining him on social media and then set up the account together and set the privacy settings. Put your child’s social media account on your phone and monitor the account. Have a conversation with your child so that he knows that you are doing this to support and help him along the way.
4. Talk to your child about the importance of pausing for a moment to think before she texts or posts anything. Have your child ask herself, “Is it true and is it kind? Could anyone’s feelings be hurt by this post?”
5. If you see your child really glued to social media, use empathy and show an interest. If the child admits to feeling left out or hurt by others online behavior, listen, validate and empathize and then have a conversation about how curated those images are and help your child set some limits on scrolling through her feed.
All classrooms will cover digital citizenship within the first month or two of school. Please follow up with your kids to reinforce and remind them of the importance of staying safe online.
