MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
This week, our teachers continued to find ways to make learning fun for scholars in our schools. At Mount Vernon Leadership Academy, pre-K students learned about letters and phonics through the Fundations program. When we make learning fun for students, it can spark a passion for learning that can continue for their whole lives. As teachers design unique and engaging lessons, students will be more excited to come to school and learn.
As well as making learning fun, we are focusing on reading, arithmetic and writing. At Benjamin Turner Academy, they held the Scholastic Book Fair, and students were excited to pick up their new books.
Seeing students and staff wear pink to support breast cancer awareness was truly heartwarming. I think it is important to bring awareness to this disease, and schools across the District have shown their support for all those affected by it.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
