Westside Middle School

September 2018

I hope you and your students enjoyed the long weekend. I can't believe it is already September and we are well into first quarter. You will find some important information in this newsletter.

Varsity Football Games

On Monday August 27th parents and gaurdians should have received an email from the communications department concerning Varsity Football games. To ensure that all parents received it, I have included it here.

Hello,

We continue to ask for your help ensuring elementary and middle school students have parent accompaniment and supervision at Varsity sporting events, specifically football games. At Friday night’s game at Bellevue East, we had approximately 100 unsupervised, younger students, at least half of whom were loitering in the parking lot more than 30 minutes after the game. This is a safety concern for all involved.

Whether home or away, please plan for a parent to accompany your child if they want to attend a game.

Genius Hour

Genius hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school. Students will be notified of their Genius Time and Topic by September 12th. We will begin Genius hour on Thursday, September 20th and will occur every Thursday until November 15th.

World Day of Bullying Prevention
