All members of the school community are encouraged to develop their potential and special qualities in an environment centred on Christ.
From the Principal
Dear Parents
Welcome to the 2020 school year! We have been preparing for this ourselves over the past few weeks and are looking forward to working with your children again. Welcome to Mr Joseph Sarsero who joins our team as sports and phys-ed teacher. Joe will share this role with Ms Jodi Newton as Mrs Sarah Thompson has moved to a new position at Perth College.
Year three parents were given some exciting news yesterday in that Mrs Sarah Hangchi is expecting and will be taking maternity leave at the end of term one. Congratulations to both Sarah and Gavin on the pending arrival of their first child. Mrs Nicole Sanders will take over in year three at the beginning of term two.
The new school year begins with much news surrounding the Corona Virus. Information and updates have been sent to all families recently and fortunately we do not have any staff affected in any way. We have two families who have travelled in the areas affected and the children although having no infection will begin school a little later as a precautionary measure following the guidelines issued by the Health Department.
The school is looking great for the new year and I thought Mr Peter Thomas “Welcome” on the school oval was a nice touch. Thanks to Nino Marchese who worked through the holidays on improvements in the music room and the art/maker space room. A fantastic job that has given these older rooms a real lift. Thanks also to Marcia, Nicole, Samantha and our P&F for all their assistance with this project.
Our sincere condolences to Paige and the Marchese family on the recent passing of Paige’s mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with Paige and the family during this difficult time.
So with the first day well underway it was so nice to see the children resplendent in their school uniforms all ready to get stuck in after a good break. This Thursday afternoon beginning at 4.30pm we have our annual “Ice Breaker.” All families are welcome and it is a wonderful opportunity to meet all our new families and old friends.
Our Parent/Teacher meetings for Yers 1, 2 and 3 are scheduled for Monday 10th February and year 4, 5/6 on Tuesday 11th February. I will meet with all parents briefly in the hall at 7.00pm and then the class meetings will begin at 7.15pm. These are important meetings for all parents to attend as teachers will set out their plans and procedures for the year as well as pass on important dates and information.
The school calendar is being finalised and will be ready for distribution very soon and any communication from school will be done via email and SEQTA. Welcome to all our new students who join us this year and to all our three year olds who have joined the program.
Kindy: Caleb Eastwood, Ellianna Jenkins, Jackson Leach, Flynn McMahon, Maxwell Pagett and Emma Uskova

HOLY SPIRIT PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR 2020
Children at Holy Spirit are involved in a formal Physical Education programme from Kindergarten through to Year Six. Each class has a 50-minute lesson each week. Added to this, classroom teachers also cater for extra sport or fitness time.
There is an interschool competition from Year Three to Year Six involving Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Based on trials or carnival results a team is selected to represent Holy Spirit at an interschool level.
Year Five and Six also have a Term Two Lightning Carnival amongst six other regional Catholic primary schools competing in Netball, Soccer and AFL football.
Each term usually brings a seasonal focus. Term One is Swimming, Term Two is Cross Country, Term Three is Athletics and Term Four games skills. Over recent years we have enjoyed contemporary EduDance classes during Term Two which culminates with a whole school concert. During Term 1 in 2020, with generous Sporting Schools funding, we have golf lessons organised through Golf WA. We can enjoy the cool shade of trees at Bent St oval during our PE sessions.
Fundamental skills form a large component of the program and maximum participation in a range of different activities and sports along with the use of varied equipment is encouraged. Occasionally we have local sporting organisations visit who offer well structured and delivered clinics. These include sports such as Modified Golf, Modcrosse, AFL Football, Rugby, Soccer, Basketball, Gymnastics, Athletics and Dance.
During hot or inclement weather conditions we have the luxury of heading indoors to our Hall whereby activities like stretching, meditation, gymnastics, movement and social dance are explored.
Children are encouraged to earn points for their particular Guild- Sienna, Phelan and Dominic by following the “Strive for Five” guidelines:
· Listening and following instructions
· Responsible and safe behaviour
· Guild management
· Correct uniform + hat
· Good sportsmanship
Most importantly we hope they enjoy their physical education experience and learn the importance of developing a healthy, sustainable exercise regime with the acquisition of new skills to enable a high level of involvement in various sporting activities.
