CONGRATULATIONS SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM FOR ADVANCING TO NATIONALS TWO YEARS IN A ROW!
The Fulton Science Academy Private School Science Olympiad Team qualified for the National Science Olympiad Tournament by placing second at the Georgia state tournament held at Lambert High School on March 19, 2016. The team had its best performance in team history, besting last year’s state score by twenty points. FSA team members earned medals in eighteen of the twenty-three events and its lowest event placement was seventh out of twenty-six of the state’s top teams.
Head Coaches Pam Walsh and Gloria Stathos were especially proud of the team’s performance.
“Our students exuded a calm confidence throughout the day,” said Gloria Stathos. “They came out of each event feeling they were well-prepared and had done their best.” Pam Walsh said, “In the past, we’ve always had at least one event that for whatever reason did not go as planned, but this year, our students left nothing to chance and it showed. All of our building events worked as expected and we give a lot of credit to our Building event coach, Yasin Parlak. This is his first year coaching Science Olympiad and he has done an outstanding job mentoring his students. ”
The team now will spend evenings and weekends preparing for the National Science Olympiad Tournament to be held May 18-21 at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menominee, WI.

That aside, what better way to set an example of volunteering to students and to the community than by volunteering his time. It is the impact he has to the children and to the community for which I [we] am inspired to nominate Mr. Kenan Sener for the Spirit of DI Award for the 2015-2016 season.”

St. Patrick's Day Celebrations!
St. Patrick’s Day morning (March 17th) was filled with mischief and fun for the kindergarteners. Pat the Leprechaun had visited both classrooms overnight and left more than a few surprises! The classrooms definitely looked a little more disheveled than usual and the kids had a great time cleaning up from that pesky leprechaun, but the best part was the riddle-filled scavenger hunt! Students solved clever riddles as a group and traveled around the school to try and find Pat’s pot o’ gold. Alas, he evaded us once again. However, great fun was had by all and the plastic coins we found were almost as exciting as the real thing!

FSA Health Policy Reminder
It seems that cold and flu season is upon us and in full swing. We would like to remind you of our school policy regarding communicable illnesses and give you some helpful tips for staying healthy. We are beginning to see a lot of students at the front office with communicable illnesses and many of them mention that they were sick before leaving home, but their parents encouraged them to come to school. Please let me remind you that control measures and periods of exclusion are very important at a time like this in order to keep down the spread of these illnesses.
If we all follow these guidelines and simple steps, it will help to combat the spread of illness throughout our school and in your homes.
School guidelines regarding communicable illness:
1. The student should remain at home until being symptom free for 24 hours. This means that your child may not return to school until 24 hours from their last vomiting or diarrhea episode.
2. If the student experiences a fever during an illness, they should be “fever free” for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before returning to school.
3. If the diagnosis is strep throat, the student should remain at home for 24 hours after starting the first dose of antibiotic treatment.
4. During any communicable illness, the student should be symptom free and fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. If your child has the flu, they should provide a doctor's note stating they can return to school.
NATIONAL CHESS TOURNAMENT

Mrs. Peacock’s 7th Grade Boys CMP Class
Themes explored this year together as a class include: Empathy & Communication, Bullying Prevention, Emotional Management, and Decision Making/Problem Solving.
We have just finished analyzing the characters and their traits in the movie “August Rush”. The title character is a musical prodigy, which has never known his parents, but never doubts that they exist and are searching for him. His parents, he believes are speaking to him through music. August hears their love for him in the music that surrounds him, and he answers back to his parents through that music he creates.
This music driven movie demonstrates the power of music to evoke emotion and to communicate to others. We are working through a variety of activities are designed to encourage students to explore the ways in which music enhances their life on a daily basis. Various types of relationships and connections in August Rush define and shape the people and outcomes in the story,. They demonstrate how crucial and interconnected different relationships in life really are.
Students are continuing to explore together: emotions that different circumstances evoke, identify ways to best communicate and express themselves, and how to best support others around them.
Clubs
Soccer- the beautiful game!
Middle School Soccer club has been a blast this year. We have played many games consistently mixing up the students to make sure they understand how their peers react under pressure and in game play. The students have been learning through game play to maneuver, pass, and score. Students have been playing in multiple player positions to discover what positions they need work on and what positions they are doing well at. The player camaraderie, talent and sportsmanship among the students is nothing shy of impressive. FSA soccer club is full of heart, stamina and determination.
