Bring your guitar, and be sure to send in your registration form, which came home this week or can be printed from the link above.
Cub Scouts Kickoff
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 7:00 p.m. in the School Hall
All boys in Grades K-5 and their families are invited to our Cub Scout Pack 247 annual kickoff event! This year, we will host magician John Measner for an evening of family-friendly fun. Additionally, you can meet the leaders and find out all about Cub Scouting. Feel free to bring your friends--Pack 247 members come from all over, not just SAS. FMI, call Cub Master Karie Breitenreiter at 708-212-4104.
Band Demo Concert
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 10:45 a.m. in CHURCH
Did you know that SAS students in grades 5-8 are eligible to participate in the District 158 band program for FREE? The Concert Band will perform for the entire school on Wednesday morning, and they never disappoint. Come and enjoy the music! Next week, director Mathew Becker will visit the school with an assortment of instruments for the students to try out. If they are interested, information about joining band will come home.
Bricks 4 Kidz to Begin!
Guess what's back by popular demand . . . our after-school Bricks 4 Kidz program! These STEM enrichment classes for Kindergarten-6th Grades will meet every Wednesday immediately after school, beginning Sept. 18. Space is limited and open only to SAS students--register soon!
School Board Meeting
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 7:00 p.m.
Our SAS School Board meets every third Wednesday of the month in the Parish Office. Meetings are open, and all are invited to attend. Get to know our School Board members by reading their bios on the St. Ann School website.
PICTURE DAY!
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19
Please have your students dress in Sunday best attire. Order forms came home this week and should be returned with payment on picture day for your child to hand to the photographer. OR you can easily order and pay online by visiting the Van Gogh School Photographers website. Our School Code is 20031601. If you order online, there's no need to send anything else with your children on Picture Day--well except for their smiles, of course!
Garden Club
- play in the dirt
- observe and handle insects
- learn how to germinate seeds and plant them
- study native plants and pollinators
- create art with nature
Garden Club is FREE, but everyone must turn in a signed waiver in order to participate. Forms went home in the Thursday envelope, or may be printed from our website.
Skating Party
SAS has been holding skating parties at the Lynwood Sport Center for over four decades now. Come join the tradition! Kids of all ages are invited; there are accommodations for even the youngest skaters. Admission is $6, and skate rentals are $2.50 (they even have learn-to-skate skates for the little ones, and "walkers" on wheels are available for $4 rental fee). Parents/guardians are not required to skate, but in order to keep costs low for the participating kids, non-skaters will now pay a Spectator Fee of $1 each. Tickets will be for sale during Morning Assembly on Wednesday and Thursday, and also available at the door. Everyone who purchases a ticket will receive a NUT card for a future dress down day.
Every student does need to be accompanied by a responsible adult who will sign them in and out and remain on the premises for the duration of the event. This means that if you are unable to stay, another adult (18 or over) must be willing to take responsibility for your child in your absence--no unattended drop-offs will be allowed at any grade level. As our school parents have taken over some of the supervisory responsibility from the teachers, this measure is designed to help keep everyone safe. Thank you for understanding!
The schedule for this year will be:
September 19: Hosted by 8th Grade Parents
December 5: Hosted by 7th Grade Parents
January 30: Hosted by 6th Grade Parents
March 12: Hosted by 5th Grade Parents
April 30: Hosted by 4th Grade Parents
Parents, don't panic if you see your grade listed above! Two teachers will still be present at every Skating Party, but we are asking for each grade to supply five adults to help with supervision on their assigned evening. If you are already going to be there, this is a quick way to knock out THREE volunteer hours at once! Each grade above is linked to its SignUp.
