M-STEP Testing is Here
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. The assessments provide the district with a snapshot of student achievement at the state, district, and building levels. Individual student results will also be shared with parents.
The tentative assessment dates for M-Step are as follows:
3rd Grade
Wednesday, April 19 - ELA
Tuesday, April 25 - Math
4th Grade
Monday, April 24 - ELA *Date Change
Tuesday, May 2 - Math
5th Grade
Thursday, April 20 - ELA
Wednesday, April 26 - Math
Thursday, May 4 - Social Studies
Wednesday, May 10 - Science
6th Grade
Wednesday, May 3 - ELA
Tuesday, May 9 - Math
Please ensure that your child is well rested on their testing day. They should come to school with a fully charged iPad .
Please note- We have makeup days built into our testing schedule, so if your child is exhibiting any symptoms of illness on their testing day- be sure to keep them home.
Also, due to recent updates in State testing procedures, cell phones, smart watches, and any bluetooth device (including headphones) MUST be secured during testing. We encourage students to leave these devices home on testing days when possible. When not possible, devices will be powered down and secured during testing.
Are you returning to Salk in the Fall?
We are beginning to plan for the 2023-2024 school year at this time. It would be extremely helpful for us to know whether or not your child will be returning to Fraser in the fall. We are asking each family to help us with this process by completing the form below. Please take a moment to fill it out. Please complete one form PER CHILD.
We greatly appreciate your assistance planning for next school year!
Dress Code
As the weather warms, now seems like an appropriate time to revisit the dress code. This is a district policy, which is accessible as part of our Student Code of Conduct. The purpose of our dress code is to make sure that our students are dressed for learning success. Parents will be called to bring a change of clothing when students do not follow the district policy.
Here are some of the most pertinent dress code guidelines. The following types of clothing are inappropriate for school and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED :
● Hats, caps, hoods, bandannas, or other head coverings
● See-through clothing or clothing that reveals students’ midriffs, bottoms, or undergarments
● Shorts, skirts and dresses shorter than the tip of the student’s index finger when arms are hanging down.
● Clothes or accessories displaying offensive words and symbols including those related to alcohol, illegal/controlled substances, tobacco products, weapons, sexual references and/or language disruptive to the educational process.
● Beach-type footwear with exposed toes that can be dangerous during recess play. Sandals with heel straps are allowed.
March is Reading Month: Power Up with Reading! Reward
As promised, since our Seahawks read an impressive 341,180 minutes, Mr. Dave shaved his head outside. Team Mario and the top reading classes from Team Toad and Team Luigi won the chance to witness the reward. Way to go Seahawks and thank you Mr. Dave for being such a great sport.
Keep Reading Seahawks! Just because March is over doesn't mean the reading should stop.

We are very excited to offer you the opportunity to attend a three-hour training session in Restorative Practices. The program offers a look at the Restorative Practices theory and its application. It is a very dynamic, interactive training that focuses on creating relationships, and building practical skills that use a relational approach for parents and caregivers.
What will be learned:
The theory of Restorative Practices, how it is being implemented in our school district, and strategies that parents can apply when dealing with your children and loved ones.
We will discuss the power of affective statements and restorative questioning. We will demonstrate how community building circles are being implemented at FPS and how they make a difference in our relationships.
Who will be teaching:
Your instructors collectively hold over 50 years’ experience in education, 27 years in Public Safety, and over a dozen years directly related to Restorative Practices. Our instructors – a retired police officer, a teacher, and a school social worker – are well trained in RP and have been training the Fraser Public School District employees in Restorative Practices for the last five years.
Who should attend:
Any parent or guardian who does not have all the answers to raising your kids!!!
Why attend:
It takes a village to raise a child. Allow us to support you and provide you an additional set of tools in your parent toolbox! You won’t regret the time you spend with us!!!
When:
Wednesday, April 19th from 6pm to 9pm at Richards Middle School Media Center. Free Pizza and Pop will be provided along with childcare!!!
In addition
Fraser Department of Public Safety will be hosting dinner for all who attend.
Safety Town-Public Safety Awareness for students
We are also offering free childcare for school aged kids (5-12). The students will have excitement of their own. Our students will experience “Safety Town” by Fraser’s Finest. They will visit the police station, the fire station, the EMS station, our support dog station, and a fun craft station. (This will be set up at RMS around the corner from our training)

April Breakfast and Lunch Information
Attendance Works!
Charlie the Therapy Dog
Charlie has made several visits to Salk with great success. Students are happy to see him and he really brightens the mood. Charlie will be coming back on Thursday (4/20/23). Now that students and Charlie have become acquainted with one another, Charlie will start making visits in classrooms and saying hello to students before M-Step testing.
Charlie's purpose is to ease student's anxieties and increase positive emotions. We do not want his presence to cause fear or anxiety. As a reminder, parents have the ability to opt out of having their student interact with Charlie. If you DO NOT want your student to be around Charlie, then please fill out the opt out form linked here.
For the safety of students with allergies and Charlie, he will not be in the lunch room. Charlie will also remain out of classrooms in which parents have a student who opt out. Charlie will be under my supervision and kept on a leash at all times.
Rules for Interacting with Charlie:
Use calm bodies and inside voices when around Charlie.
Always ask before petting Charlie.
