Summer Reading Edition!

Summer reading keeps your mind sharp and helps avoid “summer slide” learning loss. Challenge yourself to read as often as you can from print books, e-books, audio books, or magazines.
  • Make a “reading wish list” of titles you want to read over summer break.
  • Sign up to participate in a summer reading program.
  • When school starts back in August, show your reading log or medal to Mrs. Matney as proof that you read for the fun of it over break. You will get a special treat!

Lexington County Public Library

Lexington County libraries encourage children to "Dig Into Reading!" Their summer reading program starts May 28 and lasts through August 10. Fun events include visits from Columbia Marionette Theater and Porkchop Productions. For more information, view their online newsletter.

Richland Library

Richland County patrons can participate in RCPL’s Summer Reading Challenge 2013. Stop by The Link in Ballentine to sign up starting June 1. Visit the RCPL website to view storytimes and special events.

Barnes & Noble

Read any 8 books and write the titles in your B&N reading journal. Kids choose a free book from the B&N list to keep! Visit your local store for more information.

Scholastic Challenge

Log your reading minutes online through the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. If you're looking for an easy way to keep track of your reading minutes, download the Scholastic Reading Timer app.

Read for My Summer

Read books online for free through the Read for My Summer 10-week program. Special books will be highlighted from the We Give Books library every week, along with fun interactive tools and activities to make each book come to life.

LMES Night with the Columbia Blowfish

For students who participated in the Blowfish Reading Rewards Program. Bring your Blowfish bookmark with you to the game (after you get it back from your teacher). The Blowfish will be playing Georgia starting at 7:05. Arrive early if you plan to march in the pre-game parade.
