From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
While it was unfortunate to have weather get in the way of our Middle School night on Friday, I'm proud of how the students handled themselves while we tried to wait out the storm. Thank you to our parent chaperones for waiting it out with us and the Student Leadership team for keeping everyone entertained. A big thank you to Dana Adkinson for handing out t-shirts to the middle school students who seem to have had a fun time even though we couldn't make it over to the game. Currently, I am investigating a reschedule of Middle School Night to our home football game on Thursday, October 7. I hope to have more information to give in the coming week.
Congratulations to our students who went above and beyond at the beginning of this school year and auditioned for the Florida All-State Ensembles! Congratulations on successfully performing the audition to Peyton Adkinson, Hannah Arnold, Gabrielle Batas, Olivia Benesch, Jacob Blaney, Curtis Culhane, Charlie Davey, Benjamin Deloach, Henry Fu, Carter Hetz, Lily Ioffredo, Antonina Kest, Kaia Leavitt, Ellie Meyer, Kang Muscatello, Dylan O'Shea, Zachary Rediske, Taylor Ribaric, Bronson Sadowski, Vignesh Somasekar, Cole Spencer, Jason Stephenson, Lilah Storch, Emily Strickland, Shay Stulman, Nina Vassos, Ian Villalba, Madison Visconti, Benjamin Visconti, and Andrew Yuska.
We have a couple exciting weeks coming up as we close out the month of September.
- This coming week is Homecoming Week. We have our regular Tuesday and Thursday marching band rehearsals, accompanied by the special events surrounding the Homecoming activities. Wednesday, the SOTW will perform in the Homecoming parade down Park Ave in Downtown Winter Park. Immediately following the parade, the band will move to the stage on the north side of Central Park and perform during the "Roar" pep rally. Friday evening at the home football game, the band will be joined by the Winter Park Band Alumni Association members in the stands and on the field during pregame.
- Next week, the Band will present our first concert of the year with our Fall Band Concert on Wednesday, September 29. This concert will feature all three Jazz ensembles and all three Concert ensembles. The uniform for this performance is our concert uniform of tuxedos and dresses. The students have been fitted for tuxedo jackets and pants or dresses and will be sent home with those items this week. Pants or dresses may need to be hemmed, and should be taken in to do so quickly so they can be ready for the concert on 9/29. Concert uniform accessories that were ordered through the Band will also be delivered this week and will be sent home with students as soon as they are ready. A reminder, all students must have all pieces of the concert uniform to perform.
Additionally, we have our Fall Mini Camp rehearsal coming up on Saturday, October 2 from 9 AM - 5 PM. This rehearsal is the chance for the Band to make up for lost time due to weather - and hopefully won't be interrupted by weather itself. Lunch will be provided for all students, but students may also bring their own food if they would so choose. Our goal is to have the entire show on the field by the end of the Mini Camp day.
Lastly for this week, a reminder that it is the responsibility of all Band families, students and parents/guardians, to be aware of the Band Calendar and our scheduled events. As we get accustomed to a "closer-to-normal" schedule, it is important to continually be in the habit to look ahead at our personal, family, and school calendars to ensure everything is working together harmoniously and if schedule conflicts occur that they are acknowledged, communicated, and alleviated well in advance. Unavoidable conflicts such as weddings, religious holidays, reunions, etc. are known well in advance and will easily be able to be communicated before the 60 day window outlined in the Band Handbook. Emergencies and sudden illness (or contract tracing specific to COVID-19) need to be communicated to both Directors by a parent or guardian when possible in relation to the scheduled event. Both Mr. Smith and I appreciate all of the communication we are receiving from our Band families this year. The more that we all individually plan ahead, the more success we will be able to achieve as a Band Community!
Let's make it a great, exciting, and fun Homecoming week!
Mr. Clemente

Week of September 19, 2021
Hello everyone. A huge thank you to our patient volunteers/chaperones as we waited out a very LONG storm on Friday night. A special thank you to the volunteers who were handing out shirts at Brookshire to the enthusiastic middle schoolers as well. It was a very wet night! We appreciate all of you! Even though we didn’t make it to the game, all of the students seemed to have fun together when they were waiting. We even managed to get the picture for the program—inside this year, but thank you to everyone for being flexible.
Congratulations to all of those who auditioned for All State!
This week is homecoming with the parade (thank you to all of the volunteers) and game on Friday. There are still volunteer spots for the remaining games this year. If you have not volunteered yet, please look at the calendar for dates still available.
Looking forward to the next month—games and our concert on September 29!
Thank you everyone for a great Friday (though not what we expected). Have a wonderful week

Homecoming Parade and "Roar"
We encourage everyone to consider purchasing the BBQ dinner to help support the PTSA. If you plan to order food for your student, remember they cannot eat while performing. Please order a take-out option for them to eat after they perform.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
