GLVN News
Information for Parents ~ March 2017
Dear Families,
Its' hard to believe, but we are only 2.5 months away from the end of the school year! We hope that your children have been enjoying their time with us at GLVN as much as we have enjoyed having them with us each week. We have seen them grow in many ways over the past several months, and it's such a joy to see their smiles when they are at church spending time with God and with their friends in Christ!
Thank you to those of you who came to parent-teacher conferences at the end of January. It was a great opportunity for us to understand more about your child, and we hope you also found it a valuable time to see their progress in their faith formation. We definitely plan to have parent-teacher conferences each year moving forward. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for the future.
Even though school is almost over, we still have a lot going on in the GLVN program! We are also beginning registration for the next GLVN school year soon too! Please read below for all the details.
May you and your families have a blessed Lenten season.
In Christ,
Chi Pham
Principal
Don't forget to change your clocks on Saturday night before you go to bed!
Spring FORWARD 1 hour!!
Otherwise you'll be late for GLVN!!
Important notes about Lent Retreat for students:
**To give our older students the full time with our guest speaker, we request parents of students in grades 7-10 to please try to bring students to school by 9:55 a.m. so that So can start right at 10:00 a.m. for the first group.
**Due to our guest speaker's schedule, grades 3-6 will be eating lunch from 11:45-12:15 (a little later than usual). Parents are asked to please purchase lunch from the cafeteria for your children before 10 a.m.). GLVN will be asking the kitchen to hold some food items for our students to purchase at 11:45, but we cannot guarantee how much will still be available. Thank you for your understanding with this lunch situation for the students in grades 3-6.
A chance for your child to...
Grow in their faith. Have fun. Earn prizes.
Our goal in GLVN is to help students encounter God and develop a relationship with Him, especially through participation in the Sacraments, through other people and their testimonies about their own relationships with God, in reading the Bible and in prayer. We want to foster this relationship with God both inside the GLVN classroom and outside the classroom – when the students are at home during the weekdays.
This GLVN Challenge was developed as a way to encourage students to keep on learning and growing in their faith and relationship with God when they are not at Church in the GLVN classroom. We hope that participating in this activity, students will have fun, gain a little more knowledge about their faith, and grow to know and love God more. Plus, students can earn some fun little incentives along the way :-)
We announced the GLVN Challenge and handed out instructions to the students on Sunday, March 5.
Click here to read the details on how to participate. Please encourage your kids to take part in the GLVN Challenge!
Weekly challenge worksheets will also be posted online at https://www.smore.com/4avnt

Lớp 9 Families
New in the Lop 9 (Pre-Confirmation) program this year is a retreat to help prepare the students as they approach their Confirmation year. Please make sure you turn in your permission slips and $20 registration fee by March 12. Click here for a copy of the informational letter and the permission slip.
Lớp 10 Families
On March 19, we will have the introduction rites for the Confirmation candidates during 10:30 a.m. Mass (please note the change -- it will be during 10:30 a.m. Mass instead of 1:30 p.m. Mass as previously communicated). There will be reserved spots for students and their sponsors on the Thánh Giuse side of the church. Sponsors should sit with their Confirmation candidate.
As part of that day, there will also be a special liturgical dance performed as part of the procession. All youth (all ages; boys and girls) in the parish are invited to be a part of this liturgical dance. More details about practice times will be shared soon; most practices will be on either Saturday or Sunday. Please contact GLVN if you would like to have your child be part of this special event.
Thank you for joining us for our parent-teacher conferences!
Our Lớp 10 students had a blessed Ephata Retreat in preparation for Confirmation! Thank you to all the parents and parishioners who supported and prayed for a fruitful retreat!

Saint Prayers
We had a blessed All Saint’s Day celebration at the beginning of November as Cha blessed the Saint images and classrooms.
Click here to view more photos from the day.
Each class prayed a special prayer of their patron Saint, and it is the prayer that our teachers pray with their students each week. The patron Saint for each class was chosen for the virtues that the Saint is recognized for and how their lives are great examples for the students in each age group.
We encourage parents to pray these patron Saint prayers with your students every day to help them grow in holiness at home, at school, at work and in life.
Click here to see the prayer for your child’s class; each prayer is on a separate page for you to easily print out.
All-School Prayer for 2016-2017
With St. Thomas Aquinas as our patron saint for GLVN, each Sunday our teachers pray this with their students. We invite parents to also pray it with your children each day before they begin their regular school day. You can also print out this prayer to post in your home; click here to get a printable version).
