Science Rules!

Testing . . .Testing . . .AND MORE TESTING!

Things are cranking up in 5th grade! We are getting the kids ready for the testing season. Today, we had a Math CBA and next we have a Reading CBA on Tuesday and a Science CBA on Thursday. On Friday, students will have a quiz in Science that covers Fossil Fuels and Alternative Energy. At this point in the year, students need to bring home their journals and study any information they do not feel 100% sure about.

A Note about Journals

Most students have a great deal of pride in their Science journal. We spend a lot of time and effort putting information into our journals to make them a great study tool. Please ask to see your child's work. Praise them for a job well done. If their journal is lacking, encourage them to put forth a little more effort. The journal really is a tool to be used for homework and for studying. Plus, many former students come back and tell me they have used their journal in junior high!

Homework-DIFFERENT for a WEEK!

We will be doing homework a little different this week and next week to prepare for the Science CBA on January 14. Each day, students have one page to complete, which is due the next day. All of these pages will be put together for a complete review, along with some questions we will do in class net week.

Did I mention, "I LOVE SYMBALOO!"?

For each unit of study, I will have a SYMBALOO prepared. A SYMBALOO is a page where I can place digital content that will help your child further their knowledge on the topic we are studying in class. SYMBALOO can be accessed from any internet ready device. Each SYMBALOO has a link and all links are recorded in the science journal on the last page. Students can also use the SYMBALOO pages to help study and review content as we get closer to STAAR testing time.
SYMBALOO-Fossil Fuels and Alternative Energy

Use this symbaloo to learn about fossil fuels and alternative energy. Plus, there is a gread read aloud about conservation.

SYMBALOO-Sedimentary Rock and Fossils

A great resource for learning about the formation of sedimentary rock and fossils. Plus, you can learn about tree rings and how they show evidence of past environments.

This SYMBALOO covers rapid and slow changes, land forms, weathering, erosion, and deposition.

Tons of great ways to review eletricity!

SYMBALOO-MELTS-5 Forms of Energy

A smash up of websites and games to help study MELTS!
