Support Staff try to Breakout
Message from Jeff and Yolanda
At in service week you heard about how the computer lab in the media center was being reconstructed and configured into a new technology center: "aka" maker space, STEAM lab, IDEA lab. These types of centers are arising in innovative 21st Century schools across the country. Our new center will be open to staff, students and visiting groups. It will provide a learning environment for students to engage individually or collaboratively on STEM, STEAM, and Career Exploration. Marie Coleman and Vanessa Alvarez have been working on planning and designing the space and now need your help to name it:
Happenings
- Come and represent Lorenzo Walker Technical College and High School at the 11th Annual United Way Walk the Way on Saturday, October 1 at the North Collier Regional Park. The 5k run begins at 7:30 am and the 1K walk begins at 7:45 am. The registration fee for the run is $30 and the walk is $15. The price goes up after September 30. If you are interested, contact Belynda Williams at williabe@collierschools.com to let me know you are coming. Wear your LWTC/LWTH gear. Registration link is http://www.unitedwayofcolliercounty.org/run-walk-4-way . Participants who register will receive a same day pass to Sun N Fun park and a t-shirt and runners will receive a placement medal as well.
- September 25 to October 1 is National Adult Education and Literacy Week. In celebration, Student Services is hosting a "Student Campus Connection" event on Friday, September during all lunches. Since it is football season as well, they are asking for everyone to wear their favorite sports jersey. They will have music and give away hot dogs, chips and water. Start spreading the word to your students.

Reminders
- PLT Reflections are due on September 30th.
- For the month of September, Web on Wednesdays will be held on Wednesday 9/21 ( What's New in Microsoft Office) and 9/28 (Working in the Cloud) at 2:15 p.m.
LWTC Teachers - COE has released the 2016 Employer Program Verification form. The form will be emailed to you and should be the one that you use for the 2016-2017 school year.
Save the Date - October 14th is the Advisory Committee Luncheon.
A reminder from Jack Izbicki -Due to a larger than usual crowd with more than enough work to do, the Computer Systems and Networking programs won’t be taking in any work from the general public for now. They will continue to try and service students and staff but with limitations. They will not be changing screens in phones or tablets. This requires special tools and is beyond the scope of the students curriculum. Please help get the word out.
Congratulations! Everyone has successfully completed the first step of his or her deliberate practice plan by selecting target elements. It is now time to complete step two: develop a reflection log for your target elements. The due date for completing step two is Sept. 28, 2016. You will be provided time during the Early Release Day, on Sept. 23, 2016, to work on it with colleagues from your department. You may also complete it independently at your convenience.
