Polio

Origin
Polio is a disease that is thought to have been around for thousands of years. Polio is thought to be around since 1400 B.C.E because of carvings found with a man with a deformed leg.
How is polio passed on
Polio is passed on when someone who has eaten contaminated food, dirty water that hasn't been cleaned very well, or by simply just sticking their fingers in their mouth without being washed very well.

The symptoms of Polio are:
- fever
- headache
- muscle pains
- nasua
- vomiting
How long does it take for symptoms to appear
Symptoms may apear 7 to 14 days after polio has entered the body through the mouth into someone body.
What are the long term effects of polio
After polio has entered the body it attacks the brain stem and the spinal cord later attacking the nerve cells in the body. Making the limbs become deformed and if it worsens your chest muscle may stop working but there is only a 1% chance of it to even happening to a person. With the down side once you lose those nerve cells to polio they don't regenerate back but may return to normal function if the nerve cells aren't badly damaged from the virus.
Vaccines
The vaccines made for polio where made by Hilary Koprowski, Jonas Salk, and Albert Sabin. The first vaccine was made by Hilary Koprowski then Janos salk then Albert Sabin. Hilary Koprowski's vaccine was first introduced to people in 1950 when he test it on children then Jonas Salk tested his vaccine in 1952 with good results and later becomes a public figure. In 1959 Albert Sabin has soviet trials for his vaccine then in 1960 Albert Sabin's vaccine becomes licensed.

- 6 and 18 months
- Between 4 and 6 when a children are first entering school
Prevention
Polio has no cures but can be prevented is by have gotten a shot for polio depending on the age of the person they may get it in their arm or leg.
Why is polio still around today
Polio is still around today because not all countries have great sanitation or clean water to drink everyday.

Polio can be found in this three countries today.

- Pakistan
Can polio be eradicated from every place on earth
Due to polio vaccine and its effectiveness polio is nearly eradicated from every place on earth.
