Grading Practices for Students Receiving Special Education Services
Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 @ 8:30-3:30 pm
In this training, we will explore options on ways to evaluate academic performance on grade level standards, with accommodations, modified curriculum, and/or alternative curriculum for students being served in special education.
Teacher learning objectives:
• Discuss legal requirements for data collection and documentation;
• Understand the difference between grading academic content vs. reporting progress on IEP goals; and
• Explore common practices that can skew grades.
Beyond the Smartboard: Technology for the Differentiated Classroom
This training is designed for general and special education educators. Regardless of whether you teach in a mainstream setting including students with disabilities or a separate/resource-type classroom, this training will assist educators how to integrate technology in their classroom to benefit differentiated instruction and the individual needs of all students.
A variety of tools and resources will be shared during the session. Participants will gain knowledge of numerous technology applications (far beyond the smart board or iPad), and will leave with strategies and ideas to immediately use in their classroom. Best practices for integrating technology will also be discussed. Participants will leave with hands on experience and sample lesson plans to benefit all learners.
"Rock Star" PLAAFPs
The PLAAFP is to the IEP as the Beatles were to music. Participants will learn to develop “Rock Star” PLAAFPs, and to use them to easily create strong and compliant IEPs. Participants will leave with lots of tools and an understanding of how to balance student needs with regular education curriculum requirements. Walk away knowing how to write rocking PLAAFP's that set the stage for encore worthy ARD meetings.
RIGOR: Raising Expectations: Addressing Rigor, Relevance and Relationships for Students Served by Special Education
With transitions in accountability, educators are facing the ever–increasing pressure of defining rigor in curriculum, instruction, and the state assessments.
Join us as we identify, analyze, and evaluate "the how" of increasing rigor and expectations for students served by special education.
The focus of the session will be on how students learn, creating a culture of high student expectations, and using assessment to guide rigorous instruction.
Math Instructional Strategies for Students with Disabilities
For each classroom teacher who attends this training, ESC-20 will reimburse the district/charter school $75 toward the cost of a substitute teacher. Substitute reimbursement is limited to schools located within Region 20.
By attending this session, you will accomplish the following:
•Learn new strategies to help your students who receive special education services learn, apply, and retain the math concepts you teach them;
•Develop a better understanding of how to teach mathematics concepts to students who receive special education services to help them successfully pass STAAR and STAAR-Modified Assessments; and
•Receive tons of resources that you can use and implement in your classroom!
