Stoller Weekly
October 2, 2020
Message From The Principal
Good afternoon Stoller families,
As you have learned by now, CDL will continue through February 8th. Although I wish we could return to the building and be with students, their safety and well-being as well as Stoller staff is the priority.
Teachers and staff have put forth a lot of effort and done an incredible job setting up CDL classes and routines for your students. Their goal is to have students feel like a community and create a safe space for them to interact and learn. We have tried to minimize technical difficulties and disruptions. As with anything dependent on technology, there will still be times when things don’t go as smooth as planned. Thank you in advance for your patience and compassion for our teachers. Their dedication to your students is inspiring.
As COVID continues to be a serious health concern, we will continue to work within the guidelines provided to us by the district regarding events and activities. Please see the information below about Picture Day and Chromebook distribution. It is critical that you follow the alpha time-slots and the route map for each activity. We need to make sure that there is space between students and that we limit the amount of people on campus at any given time. I appreciate your cooperation.
Have a wonderful weekend.

What do I do once I'm at Stoller?
When you arrive at campus please follow the same route that you have followed for our kickoff events, enter campus from the east and exit campus to the west. Your student will then retrieve their photo card from the table and walk to the photographer to have their picture taken. Attendance during Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)
Attendance Procedures During Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)
-
If your student is going to miss a zoom class and then access the curriculum in the evening, do not call or email attendance. This is not considered an absence and the teacher will be able to make corrections in the students' attendance if they are marked absent. You may get an automated call from Stoller at 5pm, you may ignore it.
-
If a student is absent from a class (for an appointment) and they access the curriculum, turn in an assignment, or engage in an activity on canvas anytime during the day, they Engaged Online (EOL) and this is not an absence, but considered present. Please communicate this with the teacher, no need to call or email attendance.
-
If your student is going to be absent and not going to access curriculum anytime during that day, then you will need to report the absence with attendance for that to be an excused absence. Call the Attendance line at (503)356-2681 or send an email to:
sms-attendance-shared@beaverton.k12.or.us This email can also be accessed on Stoller's website.
-
If your student was marked absent from a class that they did attend, please email the teacher to get it corrected. Do not call the attendance line, the teacher must confirm any changes to be made.
Student Device Damage & Protection Plan Enrollment Deadline
This year, all students in grades K-12 have the opportunity to check out a district-owned device for use at school and at home. Anticipating that all students will get a district-owned device, the district adds a fee of $20 to students’ Online Payment accounts (maximum fee of $60 per family per school year) to enroll them in the Damage and Loss Protection Program. This fee is waived for families who qualify for the free or reduced meal benefits program and have completed the “Permission to Share” form. Students need to pay the assigned fee prior to any damage or loss claims to be eligible for the Protection Program coverage and no later than 30 days after they begin school.
Students may choose to decline coverage, but this is not recommended unless you won’t be checking out a device, because the family is assuming full responsibility for any costs due to damage, loss or theft. These costs could be as much as $300 per incident, regardless of how it happens.
The deadline for payment is Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
Those who do not pay by the October 14th deadline will be responsible for all charges/damages incurred through the end of the school year. You WILL NOT be able to opt back in to the program.
This $20 fee may be paid via the Online Payment System or by submitting a check and a completed form to the office. Checks must be made payable to Stoller Middle School (NO CASH) and received on or before October14th.
Curbside Library Service
There will be bins to accept library and textbooks from last spring during picture days & Chromebook distribution next week. Please check your student's library account and bring in any items from last year. Books from other BSD schools can also be returned at STMS.
Please return all textbooks or library books from last year. The textbooks are needed for this year's students!
Bins will be located outside of the main school door every day the week of Oct 5-Oct. 8, from 8:30-4pm.
The Stoller Bookmobile will be starting service Tuesday October 6th!
We will be publishing details about time and stops in next week's newsletter. When students place a hold on a book, they'll have the option to pick it up at one of the bus stops. Books will also be available to choose and checkout at the bus stops. For any library questions, please email kelly_anderson@beaverton.k12.or.us
Stoller Library will offer curbside service while we are distance learning! To pick up books, first place a hold in Destiny. This video explains how to get to Destiny, and how to place a hold.
When the book is ready for you, you’ll receive an email with a link to sign up for a pick-up time.
To pick up holds at school:
-Wait until you get an email notification (in your school mail account)
-Follow the instructions to sign-up for a time slot
(talk with your parents to make sure you can be here at that time)
-Drive or walk to the front of the building. You’ll see us outside to the left of the main entrance.
Students may continue to check out ebooks using BSD Sora and the public library.
Not sure what to read? Fill out this form and Ms. Anderson will choose a few books based on your responses. Includes “Surprise” bundle option! When your bundle is ready, you’ll receive an email to sign-up for curbside pick-up.
Would you like help getting ideas what to read? Fill out this Reader’s Advisory form to receive a list of books chosen based on your responses. This doesn’t generate holds-it only provides a list of suggestions. Allow 2-3 days for your list to be emailed to you.
Please check the eWeekly for future updates and changes. We're looking forward to sending books home with our students!

Stoller Volunteers
Welcome Stoller Volunteers!
Volunteering in the 2020-21 school year will be unlike previous years. Although we are unsure what remote volunteer needs will be, we invite you to create a volunteer profile or update your existing profile. This will ensure you are able to help Stoller staff and students through volunteer work as opportunities arise. A volunteer profile is required for all volunteering within BSD schools. Please follow the steps below to update or create your volunteer profile. Additional information is available at www.stollerpto.com/volunteer.
Existing BSD Volunteers (new to Stoller)
Please send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us and request to add Stoller Middle School to the organizations listed in your mVP account. Provide your full first and last name as it appears in your profile. If you will no longer be volunteering at an elementary school, you may also request to remove that school from your profile.
New BSD Volunteers
If you are a new volunteer to the Beaverton School District, you must create a volunteer account. This process includes a background check.
- Parent/Guardian: Complete the Parent/Guardian Volunteer Application
- Community Volunteer: Complete the Community Volunteer Application (This applies to Grandparents, Nannies, Neighbors, etc)
- Youth Volunteers: Complete the Youth Volunteer Application
Within the application, please include all of the BSD schools where you are a volunteer. You will have one profile for all your BSD volunteering.
- This step also initiates a background check. It will come up for renewal every 2 years.
- Once your background check is complete, you will receive an email from Stoller PTO stating your background check approval status, and your volunteer profile at myimpactpage.com will be active.
Thank you for giving your time and talents to Stoller this school year!
If you have any issues with your device or logging in, you will need to contact the Student Help Desk.
