Principal's Post
Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you were able to spend some quality time with your family and friends over break. It has been a wonderful week back to school after the break. Students are bringing their report cards home today, Friday, January 6. Please be sure to review your child’s report card and have a conversation with your child about his/her academic progress to date. You may keep the report card, but please sign and return the report card envelope.
During the month of January, our character trait is a focus on Responsibility: The ability to respond appropriately when making decisions. We all want our children to grow up to be responsible adults and productive citizens in society. We want them to feel, think, and act with respect for themselves and for others. Responsibility is a skill that develops over time as people grow and mature. The great thing about this journey is that practicing responsibility is all about choices. We have a great opportunity to praise children for making good choices and to teach and counsel them when they make mistakes. This is what growing up is all about! I would encourage you to talk about the importance of responsibility and challenge your student to think about the choices they make and what it means to be responsible.
With cold weather here, please make sure your child is prepared to go outside at recess. Our general guideline is that students will go outside when the temperature is at least 20 degrees or warmer with wind chill taken into account. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately with coats, hats, gloves, etc.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for sharing your lovely children with us!
Sincerely,
Susan Peveler

Attendance Do's and Don'ts
- DON'T forget to report an absence to the office! Call 937-429-7610, option 1 OR email shawattendance@gocreek.org. If the absence is not reported by 9:30am than our automated calling system automatically pulls the info of anyone we have not heard from yet.
- DO keep your student home until they are 24 hour symptom free, without medication.
- DON'T forget to get a doctors note and turn it into the Shaw office when your student visits the doctor during school hours. Each student has 10 absences a school year that a parent can excuse, however if you get a drs note the absence does not count against the 10 you are allotted. Doctor notes should be turned in within 5 days of the absence.
- DO let us know in advance of any absences due to a vacation. The district is no longer using vacation request forms. Therefore an email to shawattendance@gocreek.org is the best way to let us know about an upcoming vacation. The district excuses 10 vacation/out of town days per school year. Please note: parents only receive 10 days of absence that they can excuse. If all parent excused absences are used toward vacation, there will be none left to cover sick days.
