Legislative Assembly
In September 1971, the Legislative Assembly was created when the the new constitution of France was created. The people in the Legislative Assembly had the power to create laws and approve or reject declarations of war. But even with the new government, they still had problems like food shortages and government debt.
Maximilien de Robespierre
Jacobin leader, Maximilien Robespierre gained power in early 1793. Maximilien became the leader of the Committee of the Public Safety. He basically governed as a dictator. The time period he governed was known as the Reign of Terror.
The Guillotine
Dr. Joseph Guillotin introduced the machine in 1792. The machine was a quick and painless way to die. In the final 132 days over 2,100 people were excited with this machine. Peasants all the way up to kings like Louis XVI were killed using the Guillotine.
Jean-Paul Marat
Jean-Paul was a prominent Jacobin who edited a paper called L'Ami du Peuple or in English, Friends of the People. In his editorials, Marat thought everyone who supported the king should die. Jean-Paul was a radical journalist and politician along with being a scientist/physician.
Reign of Terror
During the Reign of Terror, Maximilien Robespierre's, who was the ruler at the time, followers changed the calendar, which had no Sundays. They closed all the churches in Paris, France. Thousands of people from peasants to kings were killed during the Reign of Terror.
