Tech Tools for HGSS

Come check out some technology tools to make history come alive for your students. Students need to see, hear, and experience history, government, and social studies to make it relevant for today.
Take home tools you can use in your classroom tomorrow!

Objectives of the Day:

  1. Explore technology tools to visualize history, government, and social studies.
  2. Utilize technology tools to plan relevant experiences for students to relate HGSS to their world today.
  3. Develop a list of resources to take back to their classrooms for planning instruction.

STEM Project-Based Science

The Next Generation Science Standards are organized around a series of Performance Expectations. Supported by the Disciplinary Core Ideas these PEs clearly call for students to be actively engaged in DOING not just reading about science. Project-based learning is a perfect fit to support NGSS learning as well as cross-curriculum skills including soft skills: collaboration and communication. This workshop will provide ideas as well as the opportunity to actually plan a project to take back to their classrooms.

Project Based Learning with CTE

Come find out how your students can impact their world. They can do that through project-based learning by experiencing learning at a depth new previous conceived in education. With PBL teachers will be creating rich projects that take students through a conceptual understanding of content while having them hands-on and engaged in learning. Marzanos Work & Strategies for ESOL w Dr. Kelly Gillespie

Wednesday, April 12th, 8:30am-2:30pm

This professional learning is designed to support K-12 educators in understanding and applying the Marzano Instructional Strategies (Marzano’s 9) to their daily professional practice. Throughout the training, teachers will reflect on their current practice and plan for integration of the new information in order to impact student achievement. Teachers will walk away with immediate strategies to apply in their classrooms the next day. Tools and resources will be provided to meet the needs of K-12 teachers.

Engineering with Robotics

This workshop training will include:

  • Introduction to LEGO hardware and the EV3 controllers
  • Introduction to the ROBOTC programming language
  • Building and operating your first robot
  • Programming with sensors – touch, sound, light, ultrasonic, encoder
  • How to incorporate remote control into your programming
  • Advanced programming concepts – loops, conditional statements, variables
  • Teaching and classroom tools
  • Troubleshooting and tips

Title I targets our students who may be at risk due to many factors. This cadre gives you resources to be energized and informed with KSDE updates, technology resources, strategies, and more!

All participants will take away the most recent KSDE information on Title, as well as strategies to utilize the next day with their students.

The G Suite for Education Admin Console Workshop is intended for an audience of technology directors, systems administrators, and others who support technology needs in schools. The content is focused on both the process and challenges of migrating educational institutions from legacy systems to G Suite for Education or administrating a domain that is already established. Participants will learn best practices and current issues from experienced peers and experts. Prepared presentations and activities are supplemented by structured time for discussion and networking.

Kokopelli Individual Plan of Study Implementation

With the new mission in the State of Kansas focused on college and career planning, we will focus on the implementation process that is available within an Individual Plan of Study. We know that graduating seniors need the most information available to them to make the best decision about their future, and we will focus on the preparation and maturation of the IPS process.

Objectives for the Day:

1. Provide Theory on 3 models of implementation
2. Create action steps to implementing IPS in your school district
3. Search through tools to help with IPS implementation
