Cougar News
The Weekly Newsletter of Clint Small, Jr. Middle School
Newsletter for September 26th - September 30th
Letter from Principal Nelson
Greetings Cougars!
I can’t believe it is already the end of the first 6-weeks! Seems like just yesterday students were eagerly bouncing into campus excited to attack the new school year. Our students hit the ground running and their behavior has been beyond exemplary. They’ve enjoyed a lot of our new programs and been very candid with their feedback. Our job is to listen to them and constantly tweak and alter any systems we can to ensure they feel they can be successful. We know when kids feel comfortable, kids can learn. When kids know their voices are being heard, they have more respect for the classroom, the school, and for themselves. Please take some time during this weekend to sit with your student and ask how things are going. If there’s something that needs to be re-examined, then by all means let us know; at the end of this newsletter there is a “Newsletter Feedback Form” which goes directly to me and our Campus Manager.
Raising Balanced Kids in a Technological World: I am so excited we have a PTA that knows the importance of taking care of teachers, students, and especially our parents! Our phenomenal PTA has arranged for an amazing guest speaker this Tuesday who has a message every parent or guardian should hear.
Dr. Mike Brooks is a well known expert on technology, gaming, and social media. He understands the needs of teens and pre-teens in regards to their technology consumption and has several tips and techniques for parents to ensure they are using it appropriately. Remember, most of us are digital immigrants (meaning we were born after the advent of technology) and our students are digital natives (born or brought up during the age of digital technology). His presentation is all about bridging the gap between us and pointing out ways we can better understand their word. See the PTA flyer below for more details.
The meeting begins on Tuesday, September 27th, at 6:15 in our cafeteria. We hope to have everybody who reads this newsletter in attendance! This is a can’t miss opportunity and a great way to show our support for our PTA. If you plan on attending and need translation services, please let us know prior.
Have a great week! We hope to see y’all here on Tuesday night or around campus in the near future. Remember, if you ever have a question, concern, or even a kudos, feel free to email me, call, or even swing by for a chat.
Twitter Feed: If you’re curious as to what your kids are creating or learning during the day, be sure to follow me on Twitter @smallprincipal I try to update it daily with what is going on a school and share pictures from the various events I am lucky enough to attend.
