Titan Weekly
September 26, 2021
Hello Titan Families -
Last week we had our first ever Club Rush. Club leaders and their teacher advisors were busy answering questions and signing up Titans. Look for a master list of clubs and meeting times/dates in next week's Titan Weekly. Students can join most clubs anytime so if your child missed Club Rush, they can still contact advisors and student leaders to join. Special thanks to Ms. Fabanish and her ASB students for leading the way and organizing an amazing Club Rush!
Last week our very own Dr. Capdevila was featured in a national segment on Telemundo's Acceso Total. Our Spanish FLAG program is one of the many things that makes Toll a great place for students and families. As we honor Hispanic Heritage Month, Dr. Capdevila continues to be a role model for our Titan community. Check out the clip below.

Don't forget to join our Toll PTA. Students brought home membership envelopes but families can also join online via our website at www.gusd.net/toll. Look for the PTA button on the right hand side and the flyer below for info.
We ask that all families monitor themselves for symptoms of infectious illness, such as flu or COVID-19. Anyone experiencing symptoms should stay home and seek proper testing and care. Please review the GUSD Family Guide below which you can also find on our website - www.gusd.net/toll.
It's still a great day to to be a Titan. We are so glad you are here!
Ms. De Ladurantey

Counselors enjoyed visiting 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes. If you missed our visit or would like to review the presentation, please visit our website at https://www.gusd.net/Page/14016
Attention 8th graders who qualified for promotion at the Green or Gold level:
You and your parents received an email from Mrs. Castagnari a little while ago to let you know of your status. The email to the students also had the link to a survey asking if you would like to participate in Green or Gold. If you haven't already, please respond to the survey. The deadline is Sep. 29th. Students who choose to participate in Green or Gold will be added to a google classroom, attend meetings, and get more information about the next steps.
Super Tutors
Are you 14? Do you have good grades? If so, apply to be a Super Tutor!
There are many reasons to consider becoming a Super Tutor:
Helping others can be extremely rewarding
Teaching others actually aids your own understanding
Gets you one step closer to college (great for your application/resume and potential letter of recommendation)
Hourly compensation
Details will be provided during the training sessions. Sign up using the form below to attend one of the sessions. Be sure to enter your email address correctly as that is where we will send the Zoom link.

Free Coding Classes
The Coding School is excited to offer Glendale Unified School District students grades 4-8 another year of Code Academy! This is the second year they are offering elementary and middle school students a virtual, live, and free program to learn an introduction to coding.
Students will be learning Python Turtle, an interactive and visual way to learn coding concepts that are fundamental to all coding languages. Each week instructors will help students write code to create fun projects such as making animated turtle races, drawing self portraits, drawing Olympic rings, and more!
The course is constructed in two parts: a lesson and then a lab, which will both be taught live and virtually by coding instructors. The lesson and lab will consist of an introduction of concepts, exercises, practicing together, and mini-projects.
Please look at the flyer for days and times of lessons. Spots are limited so register fast, https://airtable.com/shrxYLxw0v3LF0HLH.

Check out this FAQ doc for information on income surveys, what is free and what is not, meal account balances, and more.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Our “menu subject to change” disclaimer has always been on our menus. Unfortunately, we’ve had to make more menu substitutions than normal for many reasons this year. Factors like the ones listed below have all impacted our ability to forecast our meal counts.
Free meals for ALL kids
New students - we are getting to know what they like/dislike
Menu mix - which entree is more/less popular
Schedules - minimum days, banking days, back to school
COVID closures
Labor shortage
Unprecedented vendor shortages/supply chain disruptions - letter from our vendor.
Please bear with us as we try to get a better grip on our meal participation.
