Certification Clarification from CO
You may have received an email regarding a workshop on Saturday, October 11, 2014 in St. Louis for Certification Exam workshops. We contacted the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and discovered we should disregard any email from this individual.
Just as a reminder, if an educator is adding an additional endorsement to an existing teaching certificate, Missouri requires completion of the Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments by the individual certification area, test code, and title. The registration for this test can be completed thru https://www.mo.nesinc.com. This information can be found on the DESE website under Educator Certification – MEGA (Assessments).

School Board Meeting Sept. 25th
More News from the Board Meeting!
In a first step to ensure use of technology as an exemplary learning tool districtwide, the Board of Education approved a measure at its meeting last night to pay off the current lease for 6,000 Apple MacBook Airs while also keeping 4,000 student devices for use at the middle and elementary level. The district would then enter into a new lease agreement that would continue the 1-to-1 initiative at the high school level with 6,200 new devices through the 2018-19 school year.
The need for enhanced technology has been apparent at the elementary and middle school level for quite some time, with district staff investigating options to expand access to student devices beyond the high schools. With the first round of benchmark testing this fall, the absolute need for more and newer computers for younger students became an issue of critical importance.
The 4,000 MacBook Airs will be shared at the elementary and middle schools based on student enrollment at each building. All schools will see an increase in the number of mobile computer labs, hopefully before second semester.
Again, this is just the first step in providing student devices to elementary and middle school students. This is not the end of the process and efforts will continue to increase access to technology for all students. If all goes according to plan, high school students will have the new devices by the end of November, and the 4,000 existing MacBook Airs will be in the elementary and middle schools prior to Winter Break.
October Module-Classroom Teachers
Part of our work on October 6th will be going through the October Module (Modeling, Demonstrating, and Thinking Aloud). Each classroom teacher will need to record themselves teaching a FOCUS LESSON, in its entirety, in either reader’s or writer’s workshop by the end of the day on October 3rd.
You will be the ONLY ONE viewing this video during the module on Oct. 6th!! This is a great opportunity for you to be a reflective learner.
A few suggestions to support capturing the video:
- Record using QuickTime on your Mac
- Schedule a time with Heather Tate or a colleague to help record the focus lesson
Regardless of how you record the video, you must have video and audio on a device in which you can watch it. In addition, you will need to bring the lesson plan that accompanies the focus lesson you recorded. Don’t forget your earbuds, earphones, or headphones too!! :-)
See me if you have questions!
