MMW List Server Message

December 19, 2014

Hello Maureen M. Welch Parents,

One of the best parts of working in an elementary school is being around young children during the holidays. There is such excitement and euphoria in the students during this week, and it’s been wonderful. Although we’re still trying to maintain routines and provide meaningful activities for the students up until the Winter Break, the staff and I are enjoying the opportunity to be with your children during this special time of the year. On behalf of the entire staff, we appreciate the opportunity to work with your sons and daughters as it adds to our enjoyment of the season. Thank you.

Jake's Toy Drive

Two months ago, Jake Gregory began his collection of toys to bring to the kids at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. This week, Jake brought all of the collected toys to the boys and girls at CHOP, and the accompanying picture shows Jake signing the donation sheet. Jake wanted to provide the following message to the Welch school community:

Thank you for all of the help and support that you have given me. Also, thank you for choosing Jake’s Toy Drive for the school fundraiser. I have almost 15 boxes files with toys! The school helped me so much! All of the kids at CHOP will be happy.

- Jake

Connecting the Dots Project

This evening at the Council Rock Board of School Directors meeting, Mitchell Smedley shared information about a fantastic project (called "Connecting the Dots") being completed by Mitchell and his sixth grade classmates. With the help of Blake Fiadino and Julietta Lucci, Mitchell explained how the sixth graders were working to incorporate a new section in the Northampton library dedicated to books written in Braille for the sight impaired. These children’s books are called “twin vision” because there is Braille and regular print on each page. Mitchell proudly represented his classmates and MMW so well, as he explained that sixth graders will be creating braille catalog labels for the books on the Martin Luther King day of service in January, and he invited everyone to the Grand Opening Day of the braille collection in February.

Council Rock Education Foundation Teacher/Staff Recognition Program

The CREF Teacher/Staff Recognition Program provides a unique and meaningful way to thank and recognize a teacher or staff member this holiday season. With a tax-deductible gift to the Education Foundation, you can designate the teacher(s)/staff member(s) you wish to recognize and a beautiful, student designed card will be sent to each staff member acknowledging your gift and appreciation for their efforts. The Giving Tree - 2014

As a parent, I know the importance of enjoying this time with my children. When my oldest was just a baby (and I was so exhausted from sleep deprivation), people would tell me to enjoy the moment because it goes by so quickly. I thought that these individuals were crazy, but they were absolutely right. Treasure this time as a parent!

The staff and I at MMW wish you and your family a joyous holiday season, and we hope that each of you enjoys a safe and happy Winter Break with your children!
