School News
I would like to start by congratulating the students who represented Scarborough at the inter-school athletics carnival on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Thank you also to the parents who attended the event and cheered on Scarborough. Thank you to Mrs Salt for coordinating the Scarborough team.
If you have not had the opportunity to complete the parent survey I urge you to do this before the cut off date at the end of term. Your feedback on what we do well and how we can improve is highly valued. Thank you to those parents who have already participated.

Inter-school Athletics Carnival
The inter-school athletics carnival took place this week, hosted by Deanmore Primary School. Our students did us proud, giving every event their very best and working very well as a team. This year, we joined forces with Yuluma Primary School, as they too are a small school. The camaraderie between the two schools was excellent to watch and I’m pleased to report that the joint ‘Scarluma’ team came in third position.
Special Mentions
Term 4 Surf lessons
In the past, we have been fortunate to be able to fully fund surf lessons for our students through the Sporting Schools program. This year, the funding has been reduced, meaning that although we can still offer surf lessons, there will be a cost associated with it. Involved students will get the SurfGroms backpack full of goodies, a SurfGroms rashie and six surf lessons with the Surfing WA team. The cost for each student will be $50 which is still significantly less than out-of-school lessons.
Fridays from 26 October to 23 November at 7.00am at Trigg Beach
If you would like your child to participate, please email Erica Salt directly: erica.salt@education.wa.edu.au. Places will be filled on a strictly first come, first serve basis, with those who have not previously participated, having first priority. Further information about payment will be distributed next week.

From the Office
Students Not Returning To Scarborough Primary School Next Year
To assist us in compiling our classes for next year, please visit the office or email scarborough.ps@education.wa.edu.au and advise if your child or children will not be attending Scarborough Primary School in 2019. This does not apply to the students currently in Year 6 who will be attending high school next year.
Alternative Travel Arrangements For Students
Please allow plenty of time when advising the office of alternative pick up arrangements for your children. We make every effort to inform teachers and students when plans change but please try to make arrangements prior to the start of the school day.
Chaplain’s Chat
So recently my good friend experienced the joy of becoming a dad for the first time. They are still in the thick haze of everything that comes with those early weeks, and it’s a pretty exciting time for them as a family. It got me thinking about some of the conversations I had with him when I first became a dad, and some of the resources and support he sent my way. One of those things was a poster designed by Alissa Marquess. She writes a blog called Creative With Kids www.creativewithkids.com and one of the posters she’s designed I shared in the newsletter a few years ago 100 Ways To Be Kind To Your Kids. This one is called 64 Positive Things To Say To Kids. It hangs up on our ‘door of things’ at home, and I thought I’d share it with you. Click on the link and then click on the poster to enlarge.
