Word Wall Words
Words for Sept. 12-16
Words for Sept. 19-23
Please help your child learn to recognize the sight words. These are words that they will come across frequently as they read and will want to write them as an author. You can, of course, simply use the flash cards that were provided. However, your child will enjoy other means to learn these words. Below are three suggestions on fun activities:
- Write words in shaving cream
- Use magnetic letters to spell the words
- Write the words on a Magna Doodle
Literacy workstations give the students an opportunity to build on their skills. Charlotte was creating various letters using play dough. Other activities include writing practice, alphabet puzzles, listening for sounds, and reading.
After interviewing a fellow student we collectively write a quote that the child said. During this time, the students listen for sounds in the words and are instructed on how to form the letters.
During Writers Workshop we are learning how to draw various things using common shapes. The girls above drew people using circles and rectangles.
During Shared Reading the students paid attention to the text - noticing where the book said,”CRUNCHY MUNCHY, CRUNCHY MUNCHY”!
This week we are working on counting objects. Above, the children were asked to connect 5 blocks together. This is excellent practice for one-to-one correspondence.
During math workstations the students work on counting, creating mosaic patterns (above), puzzles, engineering challenges and cut & paste activities.
We are learning to enjoy books and observe the details in the illustrations. We are taking a “picture walks” to tell stories. Try this with your child to see if they can predict what the story is about.
In Social Studies we are learning about how to be good classroom citizens. We have enjoyed several wonderful books and have had awesome discussions!
Our Fox Stars
Laila was our first Fox Star of this year! She truly embraces the idea of "family" in our class. She uses kind words and is a cheerleader for her classmates. She is considerate and a joy to have in our class. All of our students are wonderful and make us proud each day!
Bennett was Friday’s Fox Star! He was nominated by Mrs. Johnson, our Art teacher. She said,”Bennett is so kind and his smile is contagious. Every afternoon in car line he tells me to have a great afternoon and it really brightens my day! He is always excited to come to art class and is a great artist too! Way to go Bennett!”
More grandparents were able to join us for lunch on Monday. What a special treat!
Technology with Mrs. Rollison
We had our first visit with Mrs. Rollison, our technology instructor. The students were programmers on iPads. They selected dance moves and had a partner follow their directions. We had a great time!
What a special treat to have Matteo’s big sister, Victoria, read a book about fall and our assistant principal, Mr. Lambert, read a book about winners never quitting.
