Westwood Families,
April showers bring May flowers but at Westwood the showers are bringing stream tables to our fifth graders in science. Students use the tables to study how landforms affect the flow of water. Mrs. Olson and Mrs. Golanowski’s classes are creating models of different landforms and then running tests to see the effects of water on the landscape.
The PTO has been very busy bringing the Westwood community together. The fifth and sixth graders have new recess equipment, including soccer nets and corn hole. The PTO is putting together a lock-in and dance for students in April and an end of year celebration for our 8th graders. Information will be coming on these events. We appreciate the continued partnership and hope more parents are able to attend our in-person PTO meeting or join us through Zoom.
Report cards for the end of trimester 2 are posted in Campus Parent Portal. If you have questions or need help, please reach out to your child’s teacher(s) or our office.
Have a wonderful week and may Madness of March be good to you.

Principal

Case closed for sixth graders: Goldilocks v. The Bears
Case closed! As students returned from Spring Break last week, court was officially in session. The Westwood STEM/Flex space transformed into a mock trial courtroom for sixth graders in the Gifted & Talented program. Each side’s lawyers presented their case, an active gallery and jury (of peers) heard their arguments and determined the winner in Goldilocks v. The Bears.
5th Grade Choir Class
The 5th grade AIM class has been celebrating both world art month and Music in Our Schools Month this March as they have worked on creating their very own shekeres! Shekeres are traditional African musical instruments, similar to a large shaker, that are typically made out of dried gourds and beads. The students have cleaned and colored their gourds, and they will begin beading their instruments next week!
