Nordic News Update

Week of Oct 11

Welcome to the start of the 2021-22 season! It's hard to think about ski season when we are having such wonderful weather!

Below you will find information on signing up for the team, equipment, and our online auction - the teams main fundraiser for the season.

The outlook:

Right now, I have not been informed of any COVID restrictions for the winter, but as we all know, that could change! The goal is to go back to a more typical season with skiers racing on-site against other teams and parents being able to spectate.

Team Informational Meeting: We will have a team informational meeting for students during C3 on Thursday, Oct 28th. Skiers should sign up for the meeting on powerschool when you choose your C3 options for that week (look under community, Nordic Skiing Info Meeting)

Parent Informations Meeting: I'm still trying to figure out what this will look like. In the meantime, you can reference the information on the team website: Specifically, you will want to look at the team information page, online auction page, Parent Skier Letter for 2021-22, and How to Buy Equipment document.

Sign Up for the Team!

2 steps to signing up:

1. Fill out the google form. This helps us build the team roster and set up email groups for communication. Information on the form will be shared with team members to help set up carpools.

2. Make sure Nordic Skiing is checked on the schools Form Re-leaf page (this is for medical and insurance information) If you filled out Form Re-leaf for another sport but did not check Nordic Skiing, please call the main office and they will update your records

All information regarding the team can be found on our website: under the team information link

Skiers need to supply their own equipment; both classic and skate (freestyle) equipment are needed. If you are new to the sport please read this document on How to Buy Equipment and contact coaches with any questions.

New (and returning) skiers should consider leasing equipment through the Skirack in Burlington. But get in early as they will run out of lease packages again this year!

If you are purchasing your equipment, make sure you let them know you are on the CVU team- they have team prices for high school skiers. While they have received the majority of their inventory, some still remains delayed because of shipping. If they do not have what you need they are taking orders and calling folks when it arrives. Another reason to get in early if you are purchasing!

Skirack is hosting a Salomon Fit Weekend again this year- Oct 30-31. In the past bindings have come free with a purchase of skis, however, this year most Salomon skis already come with bindings. Skirack and Salomon on working on some other incentives, so I highly suggest taking advantage of this weekend if you plan on purchasing. Hint: you can go in early, get fit, place an order, and then purchase on the sale weekend!

Online Auction Fundraiser

We are running our online auction again this season. This is our main fundraiser for the season.

Funds raised help pay for the team wax and waxing equipment, along with extra coaching staff. Skiers need to glide wax their skis before each weekly race. Classic skiing also require kick wax for practices and races. The team supplies all this plus the equipment and tools (benches, irons, scrapers and brushes) needed for waxing.

I will share auction dates and web address asap. In the meantime, we need skiers to solicit 2 donated items from area companies. To ensure we don't duplicate solicitations to companies, we have a Company Solicitation Spreadsheet for skiers and families to sign up on. You can use this letter to help when you approach companies for donations. Once you have secured a donation please fill out this 1/2 sheet and bring the item into Sarah in room 200 (Fairbanks Core Science).

Last year several families purchased gift cards to local restaurants and donated them to the team as a way to help local businesses and the team. This is still an option. If you purchase a gift card there is no need to sign up on the spreadsheet as we can have duplicate items in the auction. And finally, if you'd rather donate directly to the team in lieu of soliciting donations we suggest $75 payable to CVU Nordic Ski Team.

All details for the auction can be found on our

Optional Team Clothing

Dressing for practice is key for staying warm and enjoying the sport! Scroll down to the clothing section of The How to Buy Equipment document to learn how to layer.

In the past, we have offered a variety of team clothing options including jackets, pants, hats, and headbands. Like everyone else, our past suppliers are currently experiencing low inventories. We are exploring new options and will get information out to families asap.
