Good Evening Timberwolf Families,
2023 is off to a fast start at Banks Trail Middle and we are excited about all of the amazing things that our students are involved with. I hope that you and your family enjoyed a restful and relaxing Winter break and are ready for the new year!
I want to extend my appreciation for those who weighed in on our December parent check-in survey. We received some great feedback from our families and we have been going through your comments and using this information to make some adjustment to how we are doing things at The Trial. Continuous improvement is a goal for our school community and our partnership with families is crucial to our school's success. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on all things Banks Trail.
The Spring semester rolls by at a lightning fast pace. Our students stay busy with so many activities both in and outside of school. The third quarter of the year has a different feel to it and presents some unique challenges with academics. I encourage you to help your students find a healthy balance between school and their extracurriculars, and to really take advantage of the time and opportunities we have within the school day to complete work and get a little extra help. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our teachers with any questions or concerns within their subjects.
Looking at the calendar, BTMS students will be in the spotlight for some great things in the weeks to come. Please join us as we celebrate our Timberwolves in action. Thank you again for your partnership in these middle school years!
Thank you,
Marc Pyrc

Nurses Corner
In Fort Mill Schools, a priority is providing a safe environment for all students. As you may be aware, food allergies are becoming increasingly common among students in the District and throughout our nation. While some allergic reactions are mild, many students have severe food allergies and experience life-threatening reactions when exposed to their allergens. In some cases, this reaction can occur simply through contact or airborne exposure even when the allergen is not ingested.
Health and safety has always been a top priority for us, especially when working with students who have a life threatening medical condition.
· We encourage all students to wash hands with soap and water before and after eating. Hand sanitizers and water alone do not fully remove allergens.
· We remind students not to share food with others.
· When preparing your child’s lunches and snacks, please check food labels and consider sending in alternative food items to reduce exposure to the allergens. For instance, there are several alternative butters that can be used in place of peanut butter (e.g., Sunbutter, which is made from sunflower seeds).
· Per District policy, all food items brought to school for group consumption by students must be commercially prepared (store bought) and have labels declaring the ingredients. If you need help identifying treats that would be safe for all of the students who will be partaking in the celebration, please let me know.
· For celebrations, please consider non-food alternatives. This is a good idea not just because of food allergies, but also due to the growing issue of childhood obesity.
We appreciate your awareness, understanding and cooperation in working toward keeping our students safe. Please check with your child’s teacher about specific classroom concerns

Important Reminders
Names
Please make sure to write your students name on all items brought into the school (lunch boxes, water bottles, sweaters, jackets etc.).
Start and Finish Times
School starts at 8:10 and dismisses at 3:10 daily. A half day will start at 8:10 and release at 11:35. Two hour early release days will start at 8:10 and release at 1:10. Students may enter the building at 7:45 each morning. Last day of school is May 25th which will be a half day.
Transportation
Bus transportation is provided and set up through the FMSD transportation. Please visit the FMSD website and click on transportation website. You can sign your student up for bus transportation through this website. As a reminder it takes approximately 36 hours for processing.
Students must ride their assigned bus and cannot change buses unless it is a change of address. All changes must be made through the transportation department.
Lunches
Student lunches are no longer free, so please make sure that your student has funds on their lunch account. Parents are welcome to drop off lunch boxes in the front office if a students forgets their lunch at home. Food delivery services, like Grubhub and UberEats, are not permitted for students.
Parents, please be aware of your student's lunch account balance and discuss it with them. There are many times students are unable to purchase the snacks/drinks they have selected due to a balance that is too low. This can sometimes be embarrassing for students as they have to return the items. Please note that students can ALWAYS get a complete breakfast and lunch. This is in reference only for snacks, special drinks and extra food. Thank you
STUDENT REMINDERS
When bringing items into the school for your students, please have the name of the student on the item and leave it with the Receptionist. Please note that students are called prior to the end of class or the start of class.
TARDY / TIME AND ATTENDANCE
If your student arrives late to school - 8:10 or after, or is Returning from an Appointment -
a parent or adult must come into the office to sign them in. Students are not allowed to sign themselves in. Please remember to put both first and last name on all doctors, tardy and absent notes. If you have any questions please email Ms. Hartman at Hartmanm@fortmillschools.org
EARLY DISMISSAL
If you are picking up your student for early dismissal, please be cognizant of class times. The fewer times we have to interrupt our classrooms the more instructional time our students receive. The cutoff for students being picked up by a guardian is 2:40. There are no dismissals between 2:40 and 3:10 pm.
CHANGE OF CLOTHES
Guidance Counselors recommend that you send a change of clothes for students to keep in their possession for any accidents or dress code issues. Counselors have a few items for students to change into, but most students prefer to wear their own clothes.
