Mustang Express
February 6, 2024
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe we have completed January and spring break is on the horizon. I’d like to make you aware of two things that are very important and that greatly impact your child’s learning:
In order to receive credit or a final grade for a class, a student is required to attend class 90 percent of the days class is offered regardless of whether the student’s absences are excused [see FEA] or unexcused. Atty. Gen. Op. JC-0398 (2001)
- Ninety 90 percent of the 23-24 school year is equal to no more than 17 absences for the year. If your child has more than 10 absences for this school year, you have received a call from your child’s Assistant Principal and a Compulsory Attendance letter in the mail. Please make an appointment with your child’s teacher to discuss a plan for the rest of the school year so that they may be given credit or a final grade if the student meets the instructional requirements of the class.
We have a large number of students that are arriving at school late each morning. Please understand that your child misses valuable instruction if he/she is not at school at 8:45.
- Parents that are utilizing the car line will need to get in line well ahead of 8:45, especially on rainy days. Breakfast is not available for car riders after 8:45. If your student is bus eligible, we strongly encourage you to put him/her on the bus. The students that come to school on the bus are not ever counted tardy, allowed breakfast even if late, and the buses unload underneath a covered walkway.
We appreciate your understanding.

Parents
We wanted to remind you that there is a STAAR Field Test tomorrow, February 7, and no visitors are allowed for any grades - including lunch visitors.
Also Wednesday, February 14, is Valentine’s Day and it is a special day for many of our students and parents. However, in order to provide a safe and effective learning environment with limited distractions, we will maintain our standard practice for items brought to school as well as deliveries.
- No student gift drop-off by parents or others - including balloons.
- All items brought to school need to be able to fit into a student backpack.
- All items brought to school must be school appropriate according to the CFISD code of conduct.
At Millsap, students will decorate bags with their name. At the end of the day, students may pass out a card and/or sealed treat if they brought one for the entire homeroom class. Students may put the “from” on the card and to “friend” or leave blank to avoid long lines for passing out the Valentines. Stapled bags will be sent home for the students to enjoy at home.
We want to thank everyone for helping us maintain a great learning environment for our students.
Please remember that Friday, February 16, and Monday, February 19, are both student holidays.
