A message from Superintendent Brady regarding masks.
Dear community members:
At this time, this communication is written to clarify that there has not been any official legal change in the mask mandate from the New York State Education Department, New York State Department of Health or Governor Cuomo.
The June 4th letter by Health Commissioner Zucker reported by the media on Friday was written to the CDC to determine if the CDC has any objection to relaxing its mask mandate. However, unless and until written guidance or an Executive Order is issued by the State, all students, staff and visitors must wear masks while on school property.
We recognize that the temperature is going to rise this week and we shall adjust the physical education curriculum and recess for students as necessary.
If we receive direction from the State that changes the mask wearing requirements at school, we will promptly communicate the change to our staff, students and parents.
Thank you for your continued patience with this difficult school year. We are almost to the end of the school year with fifteen days remaining.
Fall Sports Physicals
Good afternoon!
There have been many questions about sign ups for the 2021 Fall Sports Season.
Here is a general facts sheet.
Anticipated fall sports include: soccer, volleyball, cross country, swimming and football.
The last day for physicals will be June 11. Nurse Gilman is reaching out to those children who still need their physicals.
Please reach out to the main office 315-764-3720 with questions.
In Solidarity
In support of our Native American students and families, Mr. Brady has authorized the District to lower flags to half mast beginning Monday morning, June 7, 2021 for 215 hours to mark the tragic deaths of children who were discovered around a former residential school in British Columbia.
We will also be holding a moment of silence Tuesday morning, June 15, 2021 during the morning announcements. On Friday, June 11, 2021 we would encourage staff and students to wear the color orange to pay tribute to the Indigenous children and their families who suffered immeasurably by such assimilation policies.

Internet Safety Research Opportunity
My name is Peter Johnson and I am a research associate at Clarkson University. My colleagues, Kambiz Ghazinour from SUNY Canton and Tony Betrus from SUNY Potsdam, and I are conducting research funded by the National Science Foundation. This research explores how students in K-12 schools learn concepts of internet safety. We are interested in talking to teachers, principals, superintendents, curriculum directors, counselors, parents, and other school decision makers about their thoughts, experiences, and challenges. The extent of your participation in this research would be a single 15 minute interview over Zoom. Unfortunately, the nature of the study requires us to limit the amount of details shared in advance of the interview in order to avoid influencing your answers.
Thank you for your consideration in helping with this very important issue. If you are able to help, you can use the following link to schedule an appointment: https://calendly.com/johnsonpa/15-minute-chat-about-internet-safety. If you have any questions, please reach out to me by email at pjohnson@clarkson.edu. Feel free to share this information with others you know who might be willing to help as well.
All students attending in person must complete the health screening app.
We have three options:
- Download + fill out the app-->,
- This is also a link to an online version of the app http://bit.ly/JWLScreen,
- Children can get the pink forms from the nurse to bring in each day.
Shared on behalf of St. Lawrence County Public Health
Wednesday, the Governor announced a new incentive for 12-17 year olds. Any individual aged 12-17 that receives their first dose by July 7th is eligible for a chance to win one of 50, four-year full-ride scholarships (includes tuition, room and board, books and supplies) to any New York State public college or university. This applies to students whom have already been vaccinated as well.

Massena DFC Coalition
Jason Novak from Massena Drug-Free Community Coalition has asked that we share the link below to the Massena Drug Free Community Coalition’s current community adult survey. This is an online survey consisting of 17 questions and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. The data collected by previous surveys assisted them with establishing Massena’s need for the federal Drug Free Communities Support and Partnership for Success grant programs.
The purpose of this survey is to gather vital information about drug-related issues in our community. This information will help the Coalition to plan efforts designed to reduce local substance use problems among Massena youth.
