The Odyssey
December 16th, 2022

From the Principal
MQSCA Families-
This last week of school, MQSCA has faced a lot of illness. We would like to reiterate some basic norms around illnesses. If a student goes home on a Wednesday with a fever, that students should not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without any medicine. That would mean, the next day is not outside of the 24 hours, Friday would be the earliest the student can return. Fever reducers such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen etc, masks the illness by reducing the fever only, not getting rid of the sickness. This last week, our average attendance is at around 66%, meaning 35-41 students have been absent for much of the week. This shows that sending your child to school while they are still ill aides the spreading sickness. If your child without medicine, has a fever of 100.7 or higher, we recommend that you keep them home. In addition, we know that wearing a mask helps reduce the spread of germs. If your child has a cough, but no other symptoms, and they can attend school, please encourage them to wear a mask. We want all students to come to school, however, if they are sick, please allow their little bodies the rest they deserve.
This next week of school is packed full!
- Monday is Pajama Day Christmas edition. Don't worry if you don't have Christmas Pajamas, any will do!
- Tuesday we have mass at 8:00am. After mass, the Knights of Columbus will be announcing the winners of the 1st-4th grade Christmas Coloring Contest. The first place winner from each grade will receive a $40 check and 2nd place will receive a $25 check. Again, we would like to thank the Knights of Columbus of West Allis for supporting our school.
- Wednesday is Ugly Sweater Dress down day. We cannot wait to see the ugliest of sweaters. There may be a prize for the ugliest.
- Thursday, December 22, is the first day of Christmas break. School resumes for 1st-8th Grade on January 3, 2023.
- K3, K4, and K5 resume school on January 5, 2023.
The next edition of the Odyssey will come out on December 30.
In Christ-
Mr. Lee
Earn an Out of Uniform Pass
We are looking for as many MQSCA families as we can to attend mass at 9am mass at St. Rita's or 10:30am mass at MPH this Sunday December 18th. Any student who attends will get three out of uniform passes and a donut.
A Christmas post card was sent out to many families in the West Allis/West Milwaukee School District to begin promoting our school; inviting them to these masses. This will also serve as an opportunity for the to join me, and you, in fellowship to learn more about our great school. Please join me in fellowship with potential new future families to MQSCA.
4th Week of Advent: Love
"Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock" Luke 2:8
The Fourth Candle of Advent represents Love, the ultimate love of God that He might send His only Son for us. Called the "Angel's Candle", the fourth candle of Advent is lit the Sunday before Christmas, and it is the color purple, leading us eagerly to await the new Kingdom of God on earth.
We are having a Pajama Party!!
We had over 60 pajamas donated for the pajama drive. Again, thank you to our families for being so generous. We will have a "wear your pajamas" to school on dress-down day, December 19th. Cannot wait to see all the pajamas!

Welcome, welcome, welcome.
I welcome everything that comes to me today
because I know it's for my healing.

I let go of my desire for power and control.
I let go of my desire for affection, esteem,

Safe Enviroment Training
In order to be involved in any school activities, including chaperoning a field trip, coaching a sport, or volunteering in a classroom, you have to be safe environment trained. Below is the link to register for a training. No exceptions will be made, it is an archdiocesan mandate. If you plan to volunteer now, or in the future in any way, you MUST have attended a safe environment training. Please reach out to Bryanna Hill if you have questions about safe environment training, if you need to be trained, or if a new background check needs to be conducted. If you think you have been in safe environment training in the past, but are unsure, please double check.
Volunteers Needed
Here is the volunteer form. Please take a moment to fill it out if you have not yet. We still have many spaces available to help volunteer at different event in our school through out the year.
I have some community members that have already showed interest in supporting the school for a beer and wine tasting fundraising effort. We have an opportunity to make this one night be an opportunity to raise money for our school for a playground and much needed fencing. Please consider volunteering for this event so we can start the planning process.
Safety in the Parking Lot for drop off and pick up
Please make sure that you follow the MQSCA parking lot rules. We have a 5 mph speed limit in the parking lot.
Here are a couple of things to consider:
- You never know when a child will step out from a car, and our littlest friends often are hid by the car.
- Your time is not more valuable than anyone else's and we all run late, however that cannot be a reason to speed through the parking lot.
- Please follow the morning drop off and afternoon pick up procedures.
- Park in a designated parking spot when picking up. Lining up in the aisles, or along building blocking traffic flow and preventing cars to exit in a timely fashion.
Important Calendar Change
