I Love How We Are GROWING!
It was so good to receive messages from people expressing how well they enjoyed the CYOA, and lead4ward trainings and that they had so many ideas for implementation. I even received a text saying that 2 lessons were already taught, that used resources from the trainings. We are truly where we need to be doing what needs to be done! Let's keep it up!
Happy School Counselor Week Mrs. Campbell! February 3rd-7th
Let's celebrate MS. Campbell this week and all she does for US and our Scholars! Let her know how much we appreciate her!
WEEK At a Glance
Weekly Focus
Culturally: EXPECTATIONS, EXPECTATIONS, EXPECTATIONS, what are your expectations for your scholars? How will you ensure that they meet these expectations? How will you ensure that you are consistent about requiring these expectations? Scholars show excitement in meeting these expectations and having you celebrate them. How can you reward these expectations.
Instructionally: Think about all the PD you had this week. How can we ensure that this week we are truly the facilitators of learning, and not holding the hands of scholars but engage them in discussions that require them to really critically think. How can we ensure that our special pops scholars are really being held accountable in their learning and not creating more gaps of learning, by not engaging them. How can we improve our aggressive monitoring to ensure we are getting good data to address the misconceptions immediately. NOW is the time, we know what to do, let's JUST DO IT and do it in EVERY WAY, EVERY DAY!

Practice Academy in Action!
Promotion in Doubt Meetings
During the month of February, you should meet with the family of any scholar that is in danger (as seen through documented progress) of not progressing the next grade. During this time no final decisions have been made, we are merely sharing with parents the possibility. Scholars who did not have a PID meeting are NOT eligible for retention at the end of the year so please ensure you meet with anyone on the bubble. The family must sign the meeting notes at the end of the meeting (page 1) and receive a copy of that and the intervention plan. If you need assistance with identifying scholars and/or completing the form, please reach out to Leadership.
STAAR Online Training Modules:
Re-Enrollment:
Re-enrollment for scholars has officially began. Similar to last year, the class and grade level that reaches 100% enrollment first will receive a prize. Please make sure to send home bloomz messages to parents to remind them to re-enroll their scholar for the 2020-2021 school year. If there are any questions regarding re-enrollment codes or the process, please direct the parents to Eva calvario.

Black History Month
Black History Month is quickly approaching. This year we will continue with our a door decorating contest, outside of our grade level teams bulletin board decorations. There will be 3 winners who will receive a prize! While we want the scholars to visually see reminders of Black History, also think of how you can incorporate this into your daily instruction time. What Read Alouds are we utilizing for the month of February? What Close Reading/Shared Reading texts? What are we discussing during Morning Meeting? I would also push each of you to think out the box. While we are grateful and forever want to be knowledgeable of the contributions of Rosa Parks, MLK Jr., Malcom X, and Michael Jordan , who are other iconic individuals that they may not know about that we can TEACH them about. I already have seen where some of you have already done this and I love it! Please ensure that all bulletin boards are decorated by Monday, February 3rd, and all doors by Thursday February 7th.
Teacher Development Grant
The Teacher Development Grants support small teams of teachers in the formation and implementation of groundbreaking k-12 classroom instruction. The grants provide opportunities for teachers to integrate fresh strategies that encourage critical inquiry and to observe their effects on students. Teachers have the opportunity to reflect and write about their projects, as well as to share their results with other teachers. The Foundation awards grants to individuals in amounts up to $10,000 per year for a maximum of $30,000 over three years, provided the eligibility requirements continue to be met.

Duke Tip Scholars
We know that many of us have been asking how we can best meet the needs of our highest performing scholars, in order to help them reach their highest potential. One option that was presented in the past and is now an opportunity is to have eligible scholars participate in the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP). The Duke TIP program is available to 4th graders and above and provides opportunities and support for high achieving scholars.
The scholars that are eligible at Peak for the Duke TIP Program are attached.
In addition to having a master list of the eligible scholars at our school, I’ve included the link to resources on the Duke TIP website (https://tip.duke.edu/) - open in Chrome as Internet Explorer will block this site). Listed below is the general information and the eligibility requirements. The scholars attached met the eligibility using NWEA MAP or STAAR.
