Jaguar Journal
Week of March 23rd
THANK YOU!!!
Everyone, WOW….WHAT A WEEK WE HAD LAST WEEK! I am still feeling the need to sit and just reflect on all that happened! I can’t stop thinking about how much happened and how incredible we are as a TEAM! We ROCKED IT! I saw this online and it summarizes so well what educators do daily and did last week!
Here are a few parent emails from my inbox that I just had to share…
I wanted to tell you how much we appreciate all the work you and all the staff have put in this week creating and distributing packets, etc. I can only imagine how huge an undertaking this was, and to complete it in such sudden and difficult circumstances is amazing. I have always been impressed by the genuine care staff show for our school and students, and this is just another incredible example. Thank you, thank you. Please let everyone at North Chatham know how grateful we are for each and every one of them!
Thank you. As always, NCES excels. Know that we recognize this is not easy. Thank you all for continuing to serve our community. Lots of love, virtual hugs, hand washing, and prayers.
Thanks SO much to you and the teachers for making this happen. What can we do to show our support right now? Do you or the teachers need or want anything? I am so grateful for you, for our school and for all of the amazing teachers and staff members!
THANKFUL FOR THIS TEAM!
Building Hours/Staff Reporting Sheet:
This week the building hours are 7:00 to 3:30. If you plan to come into NCE, please know that custodians will be alarming the building at 3:25 daily. Please indicate here your plans for working daily. All staff members should complete this form each day. We will no longer use a sign in sheet or the previous google form. Please use only this form for reporting work information. Paulette will use this for payroll information.
This form gives choices/information for choices when completing the form. Please ask if you have questions!
Student/Family Information Need:
In order to best prepare for any future distance learning, we want to be sure we are able to reach all of our students. If there are any kids in your class who you are unable to reach with a phone number and email, please add their names to this document. Pete and Kaitlyn will work on trying to find out this information next week
Communicating with Parents:
By now, everyone should have decided and told their families how they will be communicating with parents and how they will be sending any supplemental work to students (supplementing work is not required right now). If you haven’t already, please indicate in this google form what tool you will be using to do so. Special teachers would love to get this info too! : )
Confidentiality:
Because of the relationships you have with our families, you often get confidential information shared with you by parents/students. Just wanted to remind everyone that it is imperative that we always keep family/student information confidential. This is always the case but I wanted to remind everyone as we are in uncharted territory. Any health concerns should only be shared with me, Eddie or our school nurse. We will follow the protocols communicated to us for next steps.
Digital Resource Lists:
Here are the newly revised digital resource lists just for NCE. There are TWO different ones--one for parents and one for teachers.
CCS and NCE Digital Resource List for Parents. Feel free to share this with you parents. Mrs. Crankshaw has also put it on our NCE website. Let Mandy or your DLT member know if there is anything missing or if you have anything to add.
This is the teacher digital resource list and is for teachers ONLY. It is listed on our NCE Staff page under NCE links and Technology Resources Links. Please do not share this one with families! :)
FYI:
Copyright and Doing Read Alouds Online: Emma Braaten is CCS’s new Director of Digital Learning. She tweeted on Friday about how to be sure you are not violating copyright laws when you do read alouds online with your students. Please read the details listed below in her tweet:
Emma Braaten (@ebliterate)
Reading a book online & wondering about copyright? Some publishers are giving Ts permission! Start “w/ permission from ____.” Then depending on the publisher, delete the video in 30 days or by the end of the school year. Here are the details! #CCSAtHome schoollibraryjournal.com/?detailStory=p…
SLT Notes from our last meeting:
SLT Agenda/Notes - Please ask your SLT representative about our last meeting if you have questions.
Madison Hayes/Flexible Spending Account:
Minutes after I sent out the sign up for appointments with Madison I learned that his company would be changing the policy for him meeting with clients. There should be an email coming from HR about the process for signing up this year.
From our Technology Department:
MANY digital learning vendors are crawling out of the woodwork to showcase their tool, app, or online platform as a free resource during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
While this may seem intriguing on the surface as a way to evaluate a product, please be aware that we are STRONGLY discouraging this for the following reasons:
We have not vetted these platforms or apps and what student data may be necessary. Remember that we all share an obligation to comply with FERPA!
These companies are doing this to harvest your information and our district's information in order to make a heavy sales push later.
We have no idea what will be done with any data they collection later and many parents have a strong discomfort with their children's data being shared with platforms even when a strong vetting process has taken place.
Our students have not been trained to use and may encounter a steep learning-curve when trying to adapt to a new platform.
Ultimately, we have a lot of resources already vetted and available. If you need a listing of everything you can use right now, please visit: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15_TLKESuDEIaSr2uDBhXEEFCG3nW1tBvdEpBlB_-FwM/edit
