Ontario Cycling Women’s Week is filled with unique activities

Ontario Cycling Women’s Week host Beatrice Trang has lined up a series of fantastic speakers and coaches presenting on topics focused on connecting and strengthening the women’s cycling community.

On May 31st, 2022, Ontario Cycling will present their sixth annual Women’s Week. What started as a daily ride to encourage engagement is now a week full of female-focused clinics, webinars, classes and activities on cycling.

Forest City Velodrome Association about to lose their Velodrome

The current landlord of the Forest City Velodrome Association has decided its time to move on and has conditionally sold the building. FCVA has a right of first refusal to match the purchase price to purchase the building, that expires June 8, 2022. They have a very tight timeline to save their operations.To match the current purchase offer on the building the FCVA need a substantial donation or group of donations.


The FCVA can offer permanent building naming rights at a prime location next to the 401, Costco, & future developments with a traffic count of 36,000 on Wellington Rd(1). Future Olympians. Charitable donation receipt for individuals through Cycling Canada. All on flexible terms. A committed board of directors made up of

professionals and community leaders.

Benjamin Hill continues as Provincial Track Lead Commissaire

Ontario Cycling is happy to announce Benjamin Hill has been elected to continue serving as the Provincial Track Lead Commissaire for a second term, which is effective June 1st, 2022 through November 30th, 2023. OC is looking forward to working with Benjamin in this role.

Ontario Cycling introduces a new Technical Lead / Performance Program Amber Hutchinson

As a well-established Performance Analyst with a master’s degree in Sports Biomechanics, Amber brings years of experience working with athletes and coaches across the pathway toward high performance and international success. She’s also played key management roles in developing successful programs in both the Olympic and Paralympic streams with Swim Ontario and Swimming Canada.

Instructor: Peter Glassford: Peter is a Kinesiologist and Professional Endurance Coach working predominantly with busy masters/adult endurance athletes. Peter has competed in many cycling Disciplines and other sport, including Ironman. He holds the Canadian Leadville MTB record.

Instructor: Andrew Watson: Andrew is an NCCP Competition Development coach and facilitator for NCCP modules in the Community Initiation and Competition development streams. Andrew is a full-time professional cycling coach with a focus on coaching off-road athletes as well as skills instruction for beginner to expert cyclists.

Canadian MTB Championship selection criteria announced

Ontario Cycling will be supporting a Team Ontario project to the 2022 Canadian MTB Championships in Oro, ON. The project will support men’s and women’s teams in the U17, U19, and U23 categories.


Athletes will receive on-site support with pre-race training, race plans, and mechanical support (including bike preparation prior to race). Selected athletes will be required to make their own transportation and accommodation arrangement to Oro.

Carson Mattern Crushes Track & Road

Ontario racer Carson Mattern isn’t just a superstar World Champion on the track—though that was a pretty high point for him last season. Now that he has the rainbow stripes in one discipline, rather than resting on his laurels, he’s opted to focus on the road as well as track this season. We chatted with the 18-year-old from Ancaster as he took a rest day in Belgium, where he’s spending the bulk of his time so he can race with the Cannibal Team in Europe.


That said, while road is on his mind right now, the 2024 Olympics aren’t far off, and he’s still thinking about those as well—and before we could even post this, he was back in Canada to take the National Championship titles in nine out of the nine track events he entered, missing a World record by a fraction of a second in the process. So, yes, Carson is proving that it is possible to excel in two cycling disciplines.

Track Season Summary 2022

The 2021-2022 Track season has drawn to a close for Ontario Cycling. We were very excited to be able to get back onto the track. While we were not able to offer our second event for both the Youth Track Development and OCup Series in January, we were able to get back on the track in February and March and finish off the season.

Cancellation of MTB OCup #4 Niagara July 1st to July 3rd 2022

Ontario Cycling (OC) regrets to inform our members that the original MTB OCup #4 hosted by Angry Johnny’s Racing in Niagara has been cancelled due to trail conditions. The OC will not be adding a replacement event to the 2022 OCup schedule this late in the season.
