Currently working on...
In Reading we will continue to look at story elements focusing on summarizing the text by including sequence of main events.
In Writing students are sharpening their grammar and mechanics skills with our Daily Oral Language practice. Students work independently to complete this practice and are given guidance through modeling correct sentence composition. Students also use dictionary skills to complete this practice.
In Science we are continuing our Human Body Unit with focus on the circulatory & digestive systems. Students are creating a life size model of the different body systems.

Homework Updates
Unfinished math work will be sent home to be completed. Students are required complete the assignment for homework and have a parent signature. Assignments are due the next day.
Thursday- Homework Packets are sent home.
Students should read at least 30 minutes and complete part of the math packet. Review science vocabulary and create flash cards. Students have written their words in their planners.
Friday-Students should read at least 30 minutes and complete part of the math packet.
Saturday & Sunday
Students should continue to read nightly in order to build habits of a lifelong reader.
Monday- Students should read at least 30 minutes and complete part of the math packet.
Tuesday- Students should read at least 30 minutes and complete part of the math packet.
Wednesday -Students should read at least 30 minutes and complete part of the math packet. Please sign your child's agenda to show they have been reading for at least 30 minutes each evening.
- Thursday homework packet and flash cards are due.
- Guidelines suggest limiting nightly homework to 50 minutes for fifth graders.
- As students complete reading a book they will then write book reviews into their reading journal during class.

5th Graders to Perform at LEAF
We are excited to announce that this year's LEAF Schools & Streets residency at Claxton will unite arts integration with our new Spanish integration program.
Fifth graders will perform at this spring's LEAF with Chilean musical artist Nano Stern.
A HUGE thank you to Mr. Butler for all he does to support music in our school.

Let Me Run - New Running Program for Boys
It’s time to register for our first ever Spring season! Let Me Run is a running program for 4th and 5th graders designed to inspire boys through the power of running to be themselves, to build healthy relationships and to live an active lifestyle. The season begins on March 21st and will run 7 weeks, skipping Spring Break Week. Our team practices will be on Monday and Thursdays from 3-4:15. We will end with a 5k race on May 14th.
Practice Sessions: 3-4:15pm at Claxton Elementary (Pick-Up is Required)
7 Weeks of Practice:
March 21st and March 24th
April 4th and April 7th
April 11th and April 14th
April 18th and April 21st
April 25th and April 28th
May 2nd and May 5th
May 9th and May 12th
** End the season with 5K (3 mile run) on May 14th, Saturday
