Welcome to October!
Dear Families:
October has come quite fast and we have another busy month planned.
A few dates to remember:
October 1: Progress Reports sent home. Please sign 1 copy and return to school.
October 6: No School, Armed Forces Day
October 14: No School, Islamic New Year
October 15: New School: Teacher Workshop
Math
Students have begun reviewing and exploring subtraction. We are working with numbers less than 20, and using strategies and tools such as number lines and hundreds charts. Students also try out different math games in class to have fun while learning.
Reading
Students have been reading independently and reading to a friend to help improve fluency, decoding skills and reading stamina. And, on Thrilling Thursdays, students choose and read with a furry friend. We will also soon be getting many new books for our classroom library - yay!
Writing
Students just completed writing 2 pieces of work, both personal narratives. This is writing that tells a true story, has a clear beginning, middle and end and contains grade-level vocabulary and punctuation.
Everyday Heroes
Our social studies unit students have been learning about how they can be Everyday Heroes by eating healthy foods, using soap to wash and by showing compassion, responsibility, respect and honesty.
