2nd Trimester Band updates

This newsletter is intended to offer information about activities and events in the band program for the benefit of students and parents. Mr. Campbell is very thankful for your participation and looks forward to a positive band experience during this trimester and hopefully the end of the school year!

Summer Marching Band 2016

We are very excited to announce our summer schedule for the 2016 summer marching band season. At this early date, we are listing the practices, parades and events as "strongly likely". We have not applied to any parades yet because they have not sent out their information. Any changes that happen will be updated on the calendars below with the date of the edit. Please check back often to keep the most current calendar in your possession.

Summer Marching Band 2016

As always, we strive to put together a comprehensive, competitive marching band performance that challenges students with quality music, cutting edge maneuvers, and high caliber instruction. This summer, our theme is "Catch your Breath". The music is inspired by John Powell and the music of the Bourne movie series.

This fast paced music will yield a strong visual and musical show for 2016. The staff is very excited and is eager to begin training students to perform their best! Music for the show should be ready to read sometime in January. We will have our inaugural performance at the District Band Concert on March 10 when all high school bands perform it for you.

Please examine the summer schedule (above) and consider joining us for this energetic show!

Mystery Tour 2016

Every other summer, the Marching Storm travels outside of Minnesota to perform in cities across the United States. This summer (2016) is our summer to travel. We are choosing to make this trip another Mystery Tour (Director knows the location, but students/parents do not know the destination). We invite every student in band to consider joining the Marching Storm this summer and experience the Mystery Tour!

The last Mystery Tour was back in 2012. Our destination was Northwestern Indiana, where we visited instrument manufacturing plants, attended a professional baseball game, performed in a 4th of July parade along side of several of the top 12 Drum Corps in the United States. We also worked with the Blue Stars for an afternoon, and attended a Drum Corps show!

The tour was a big success, and all the while, students did not know where they were going, or what they were doing. As we drove out of the parking lot, parents were given a full itinerary and were instructed not to text, email or communicate in any way to the students about our plans. So, here we are in 2016 and ready to offer another experience for our students. Please know, this trip will be equally exciting, full of experiences and offer an opportunity to perform on a grand scale!

Below are a couple documents to help you understand more about our Mystery Tour. Please view them and consider joining us! January 18 is our date to get everyone on board for the summer of 2016!

Concordia College Band performs at SRRHS

All students, parents and families in band are invited to attend this free performance given by the Concordia College Band from Moorhead, MN. Their band is recognized as one of the finest college bands in the State. Our own SRRHS Concert Band will be performing that evening as well.

I will be offering some extra credit points to Concert Band students for taking the extra time to perform on Saturday, February 6. I will also be offering extra credit point to Varsity Band students who attend and write a brief analysis of the performance.

We are very fortunate to have a facility that can be used to host outstanding band programs like Concordia. If you have contact with any college ensembles (band, choir and/or orchestra) that you think would be a positive opportunity for our students, please either send Mr. Campbell the communication information, or contact them and have them contact Mr. Campbell to set up an opportunity to perform!

Pot Luck supper on February 6

We will be needing band families to help us with our hosting responsibilities on Saturday, February 6. The Concordia College Band will be touring at SRRHS and one of our details of hosting them is to provide a dinner for their staff and students.

I have created a spreadsheet for you to offer a food item that night. (Details of when food needs to be at school will be shared as we get closer to the event.) Please sign-up for any item(s) that you are comfortable providing.

Please view the spreadsheet and choose an area to provide something for the Pot Luck supper we need to provide for the Concordia College Band on February 6, 2016.
