Fireworks After Homecoming Game

Join us for the Homecoming Football Game @ 7pm! Tickets can be purchased online on the Activities Website, or in-person (cash only in-person). $4 for students and seniors, $6 for adults.


Wear your Blue and Gold and support our Hylander Football Team!


After our Homecoming Football Game on October 8th, we will be setting off fireworks by the field! Come join the fun and festivities for CHPS Homecoming and stay after for the light show!

Reminder - Early Release Day Tomorrow, Oct. 8th!!!!

School ends early tomorrow for our Teacher Data Days.


Highland, North Park School for Innovation, and Valley View school days end at 12:20pm, Columbia Heights High School will end at 1:05pm, and Columbia Academy school day will end at 1:15pm. Bus routes will be the same as on a regular school end time, but students will be dropped off two hours earlier (since the school day is ending two hours early). All CHPS students will receive lunch before school dismissal. Adventure Club families will receive information about care for their student during the time between the school release time and the start of Adventure Club.

Fire Prevention Week with CHFD

The Columbia Heights Fire Department Annual Fire Prevention Week Open House returns on Sat. Oct 9, from 11 am to 2 pm.

This free family-friendly event gives kids a chance to spray a fire hose, watch a live-fire demonstration, view a firefighter equipment, and more!

Attendees will also have a chance to meet with fire and police officials, see Dalmatians, and play in a bounce house. Free ice cream treats, smoke detectors, and pumpkins will be available, while supplies last.

CH Athletic Boosters 54th Annual Award Event

Students of CHPS were recognized for participation at state level competitions on Wednesday, October 6th. Jake Henderson, CHPS Activities Director, received the Boosters' 2020 Distinguished Service Award. Congratulations!

CHPS Board of Education Member Application

The CHPS Board of Education has a vacancy for a board member position. The term for this position will begin November 23, 2021 and conclude on December 31, 2022. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

September 29: Postings in local papers and website

October 13 4:00 p.m.: Applications Due to Dawn Hoium, Board Secretary

October 15: Copies of applications distribute to School Board Members

October 19: Review of applications and determine interview questions work session

October 20-21: Notification of applications

October 26: Interviews conducted

October 27: Continue interviews as needed

November 9: Appointment voted on at School Board Meeting

November 23: Swearing in of new School Board member

Robotics Teams Awarded Boston Scientific Grant

We are excited to announce that our five Columbia Academy (CA) Robotics teams have each been awarded a grant from Boston Scientific for $500 per team. The students involved on the robotics team compete through a program called High Tech Kids which runs all of the robotics programs in the state of Minnesota.

ENCORE Aquatics | Grades 3-12

Free ENCORE Aquatics classes are offered to student in grades 3-12 who attend Columbia Heights Public Schools, or students living within the CHPS district boundaries. Classes are offered on Saturdays at the Columbia Heights High School Pool.

Fall Session: October 30-December 18, no class November 27

Position Open to Support CHPS with U of M Grant

CHPS is partnering with the University of Minnesota on a grant with the Center for Disease Control (CDC.) The funding is for a demonstration project in which U of M undergraduates will be mentors to Columbia Academy and Columbia Heights High School students in an afterschool program in which a social emotional learning curriculum (developed by the Lions Club) will be integrated into physical activity and nutrition programming. The U of M will be hiring either a .75 FTE or a 1.0 FTE coordinator for this position. Click here for more information on this position.

Invitation to Share Your Ideas with the District!

It is important for CHPS to have involvement by students, parents, staff, and community members in District advisory committees. We are currently seeking members for the following committees:


  • CHPS Communications Advisory Council: this council meets three times a year to elicit input on District information and communication effectiveness. Meetings this year will be on zoom.
  • CHPS Student Wellness Committee: this committee is made up of students and CHPS staff; it meets four times a year to gather input on programs in the District such as Food Service, Blooming Heights School Garden, nutrition education and on ways to support student wellness.
  • ENCORE/21CCLC Grant Advisory Council: this council meets four times a year to gather input on the ENCORE program at CHPS, the Columbia Heights Recreation Department and the Columbia Heights Library. The council is made up of CHPS teachers, staff, students and parents as well as collaborative organization representatives.
