Scholastic Book Orders
Scholastic Book Club is a fantastic and easy way to encourage your child to read, read, read! The extra benefit is that every time your child orders a book, your child’s class receives points, money, or books that support our learning! Please click on the link below and enter your child's class code to start your reading adventure!
The deadline to order books is: Monday, September 17th.
Students will be reading books of their choice every day. We anticipate they'll go through a lot of books! We have classroom libraries and the school library available, but students may also bring books from home. We want them to be reading books they love!
A good rule of thumb is between 100 points below and 50 points above their lexile level. 3rd grade students have their current lexile levels on their STAR Reading reports, while we are currently testing 2nd graders on their levels.

Language Arts
We will continue to work on increasing our reading stamina and looking at different spelling patterns with our individualized Word Work spelling list.
We will also begin to work on listening to reading through both read alouds and online sources such as Storyline Online, Overdrive, and Epic!
*Please make sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes a day at home. Encourage them to pick a good, comfortable seat where they can stay focused on reading their book and not get distracted by things around them!
Math
Along with continuing to reinforce foundations in number sense, we will be looking at patterns within 99 such as odd and even numbers and skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s! Make sure to visit our 2nd grade website to find ways your child can practice these skills at home.
Social Studies
We will continue to learn about all the continents with a closer look at Africa, North America, South America, and Australia! Make sure to ask your child what part of the world they traveled to each day!

Math
Simply put, subitizing is the ability to recognize a group of objects without counting. It is a fundamental skill in the development of number sense. It also lays a great foundation for many mathematical concepts. Try this at home!
How do you see patterns in this picture to tell how many there are? You can try this at home with any group of objects!
