Technology News
- JK has been working with several programs to help them identify and find letters on the keyboard. They have been practicing typing letters and numbers with Type 2 Learn Jr, MaxWrite and various typing games on ABCYA.com
- Kindergarten practiced their typing skills using Type 2 Learn Jr. and the Microsoft Paint Typing tool. They typed out and illustrated various sight words and thier opposites.
- First grade spent some time reading on the computer on Starfall and we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using technology to read. They also explored architectural design on the computer using Classroom architect and Autodesk Homestyler.
- Second grade students researched a country and built an informative website with text and pictures.
- Third grade students researched a Native America Tribe and built an informative website with text and pictures.
- Fourth grade students storyboarded, filmed and edited short stop frame animations. They also began researching an element to create a trifold informative brochure.
- Fifth grade students finished their socially conscious gif animations. They also researched the Bill of Rights to create an informative trifold brochure.

JK-3rd: This past month the students started a rock-climbing unit. The students used muscular strength, balance and coordination to traverse horizontally and virtually on our school rock-wall.
4th-5th: This past month the students participated in various activities to improve team-building skills, throwing/catching, and striking.

JK: This past month the students finished a unit on Traffic Safety. The students learned about the importance of obeying all traffic safety rules. They also learned about various traffic signals and the importance of stopping, looking and listening before crossing the street.
K: This past month the students finished a unit on Being Active. The students learned about the importance of participating in daily activity to promote good fitness and health. The students also learned about good posture principle.
1st: This past month the students started a unit on Keeping Active. Throughout the unit the students learned about the various activities that enhance individual health throughout life, such as getting enough sleep, good nutrition, and daily exercise.
2nd: This past month the students started a unit on Staying Safe. The students started learned about various ways to avoid injuries around, water and animals; at school; on wheels; and in cars and buses.
3rd: This past month the students finished a unit on Healthful foods. The students learned about the importance of eating various nutritional foods based on MyPlate at meal and snack time. The students also learned about handling food safety to prevent illness.
4th: This past month the students finished started a unit on At Home Safety. The students learned about various ways to respond to emergencies. They also learned about various safety measures to practice in order to prevent injuries at home, and in and near water.
5th: This past month the students finished a unit on Planning for Safety. The students learned about situations inside and outside the home that can lead to injuries. They also will be learned how to recognize and respond to various emergency situations.

JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN
· Students focused on color theory and art skills as well as safety using art supplies.
--Students learned American Artist Andrew Jackson and action painting
--They created an action painting and then cut it into circles and collaged it onto a background paper.
KINDERGARTEN
· Students learned about different types of lines
--Students created a line monster puppet
--They painted the bag over top of the lines
--They collaged features onto the puppet (eyes, nose, horns, mouth, and arms and legs)
FIRST GRADE
· Students learned about value and American Artist Albert Bierstadt

· Students studies artist Friedensriech Hundertwasser’s landscapes

--They included elements that the artist used such as faces, onion domes, and lollypop trees

--Students learned about the artist’s work on the magazine Saturday Evening Post

Fifth Grader's Hundertwasser Drawing
News from the Orchestra Pit of Mr. Chris Hoffman
Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten both had fun learning to do some ballroom dancing, including the box step and swing. We also began learning the song Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star for the Marimba. Kindergarten will work on playing it in 3 parts.
First grade worked on a rhythm piece called Cool Rhythm Boxes. They also worked on Ode to Joy arranged for the marimba.
Second Grade were working on a Jazz standard called C Jam Blues. We discussed improvising, and listened to many of the jazz greats performing.
Third Grade has been working on a percussion piece in the style of Japanese taiko drums called Pie, Apple Pie, Apple, Apple, Apple Pie, Pie. It is written for woodblock, floor tom, and bass drum.
Fourth Grade have been working really hard to play a piece in mixed meter called Dancing Bear Family for Marimbas and Glockenspiel.
Fifth Grade learned basic conducting skills, a minimalist piece called Footsteps, and music history from the Ancient Period, Middle Ages, and the Baroque Period.

* Jr. Kindergarten students have been learning about vegetables in Spanish while doing a fun activity that requires cuting, pasting, and recognizing pictures and words.
* Kindergarten students have been learning about farm animals and just started studying about wild/zoo animals.
* First grade students have been learning about the months of the year in Spanish while doing a train activity.
* Second grade students have been learning about the weather in Spanish and will start their green screen project using Touchcast.
* Third grade students have been learning about food in Spanish and will start making their own restaurant menu in Spanish.
* Fourth grade students have been working on their Pages project about daily routines.
* Fifth grade students have been learning about family members and will start with their family tree project.
