MTSS: Ignite is August 21st!
PBIS: Kickoff!
This is an opportunity for school teams (up to 5 people) to come together to assess where they are and create an action plan around their own strengths and weaknesses. This will inform the building about needs so that they can choose one or more other opportunities during the school year (Teaching the Core, The Discipline System, Tier II and III, and/or Student and Team Data). We will give an overview of the PBIS framework. Time will also be spent assessing the type of staff culture they have to determine how much intentional work is needed to create a more collaborative culture. Each school team will receive a copy of School Culture Rewired. It is recommended that a team of 3-5 attend and that an administrator be part of the team. New teams and those needing to regroup for any reason are welcome.
OUTCOMES
- Overview of PBIS framework
- Assessment of current state (Tiered Fidelity Inventory)
- Assessment of staff culture
- Identification of other professional learning and/or coaching needs
- Plan for next steps
- Two coaching sessions (or more) with OS PBIS coordinator
Cost: Due to funding guidelines, 45 seats are available for active Oakland County Public Schools Educators and PSA employees for $15. There are 5 seats available for participants from Oakland County Private Schools and Agencies and out-of county participants at a cost of $24 per participant.

PBIS and the Discipline System
An equitable, coherent, restorative and transparent discipline system is vital. Come create a draft of your school's discipline flowchart. Define majors and minors; revise your referral form. Plan a restorative system that invites more community building, student problem solving , compassion and self-awareness. School teams of 2 or more preferred.
Outcomes
- Understand the implications of Public Acts 360-366 and 394-402 for your discipline system
- Create a supportive system that includes more alternatives to suspension
- Consider restorative practices
- Determine what teachers are expected to handle in the classroom; when to involve administration; when to call home and when referrals are needed
- Well-defined majors and minors; updated referral form
- Summarize all in a drafted visual flowchart to seek feedback from whole staff

PBIS: Teaching the Core
This is about implementing tier one of the PBIS framework. Defining, teaching, monitoring, acknowledging what we expect is a core piece of the framework. Use information from your Tiered Fidelity Inventory to determine strengths and weaknesses and create a drafted plan for whole staff to review discuss and revise. Purpose: to create a plan to teach, monitor and acknowledge school-wide expectations to staff and students.
Outcomes: 1. Create School-wide expectation for common areas. 2. Create a plan for creating and teaching lessons around expectations. 3. Select a method to monitor student culture and behavior; understand how well your plan is working. 4. Discover ways to acknowledge students/staff doing the "right thing". 5. Consider ways to create celebrations for students and staff.
School leadership teams of 3-5 recommended.
Note: Due to funding guidelines, 22 seats are available for active Oakland County Public Schools Educators and PSA employees for $15. There are 3 seats available for participants outside of Oakland County.

PBIS: Student and Team Data
Collecting and using data helps us get better at everything in life. The PBIS framework includes collecting and using data around student behavior AND team implementation data. The key is collecting the right data and sharing it so that conversations leading to positive change are more possible. This one day experience will help the school culture/PBIS team analyze and tweak office discipline referrals for school-wide information. We will explore other instruments that help create supports for tiers II and III. In addition, we will discuss possibilities for assessing implementation of PBIS using team assessments. Finally, we will discuss ways data can be displayed and shared for effective conversations. Two members of the school team are recommended to attend.
Note: Due to funding guidelines, 22 seats are available for active Oakland County Public Schools Educators and PSA employees for $15. There are 3 seats available for participants from Oakland County Private Schools

Engaging Reluctant Learners
This professional learning experience is part of a comprehensive effort to address student engagement. Relationships are paramount for engagement. Most important are student's relationships with teachers, their school and their learning. We will unpack Robyn Jackson's book entitled: "How To Motivate Reluctant Learners" to learn how to intervene with and support unengaged students. There will be plenty of conversation and opportunity to grow learning around student engagement. Includes book!
Note: Due to funding guidelines, 18 seats are available for active Oakland County Public Schools Educators and PSA employees for $30. There are 2 seats available for participants from Oakland County Private Schools and Agencies and out-of-county participants at a cost of $48 per participant. Book and lunch, both days, included!
Facilitated by Bryan Dean and Mary Perfitt-Nelson.

Evaluate Progress: Fall is time for updating the Tiered Fidelity Inventory
Tiered Fidelity Inventory
We are recommending that all leadership teams use the Tiered Fidelity Inventory to track progress with implementation of the PBIS framework at all tiers. You can download the PDF and take it yourself from the PBISAPPS site, or contact me and I can submit it to create lovely graphs that lead to authentic conversations (see above). We also created an action plan template to help you prioritize needs. The school above was able to see growth in just 1.5 months, which builds more commitment.
