Mrs. Birkland's Kindergarten Class

Room 108

This week we have been awesome! WE have been doing a lot to get ready for our conferences next week. Check it out below!

Writing-a peak into our day

This week we worked so hard, even with out Mrs. B there each day. We are making a very special book to read to you all next week at our conferences. It will give you a little snapshot of some of the things we do during our day. They did a great job writing and illustrating it. Today we talked about how we feel about kindergarten and finished up our books. Next week we will make a cover and read them to partners in anticipation of being able to read them to you all. We can't wait!

Math-Those tricky teens

In math this week we continued to go though those tricky teens we have worked on numbers 13-17. Next week we will finish up with 18 and 19! This also has been getting us ready for our big conference day. We have a game we want to play with you called Race to 20. It will showcase our ability to add/subtract and identify quantities that make teen numbers. So, make sure you come and are ready to play.

Reading with Mrs. B

The last part of our conference will show off where we are at in our reading journey. I have been able to sit down with each kiddo one-on-one to see how they are doing reading a text independently. I am looking for them to be able to use those strategies good readers use when they come to words they don't know, like sounding out the word, checking the picture for a clue, thinking-have I seen this word before, or skipping over the word, reading on and then figuring out what would make sense for the word to be. They have really done an awesome job. For those that are reading more than a repeating text, I ask them to retell the story, starting at the beginning. I look to see if they can name the characters and tell the events in the order they happened. I can't wait to share this info with you next week.

Speaking of Conferences-Check your time and make sure to sign up if you have not already!

Please make sure you sign up here for our student led conferences in February. This is a time for your child to show you some of the stuff we have been working on lately.

Valentine's Day Party-Wednesday
