First Grade News

Ms. Tice's Class

Reading- Students will be practicing words with sh, reading comprehension, and fluency.


Writing- Students will be writing about where penguins live and what they eat.


Math- Students will be practicing number bonds, addition and subtraction, and learning Venn diagrams.


Social Studies- Students will be learning about George Washington Carver and a compass rose. They will be discussing factories and making butter.


Important Dates:

Tuesday, Dec. 2-Reading MAP test

Wednesday, Dec. 3-Math MAP test

Friday, Dec. 5-Reading and spelling tests


Important Information:

We will be making butter on Wednesday, Dec. 3! If you can bring in any Mason jars you may have, that would be great!

Ms. Shapiro's Class

Reading: We will be reading "At Play Long Ago and Today" in our Storytown books. We will be focusing on the y/-ey endings that make the "e" sound. New Reading homework packets were sent home today.


ELA: We are working on our informative writing books. Your child has chosen an animal to study and write about. Please help your student research at home and bring in any fun information that will help them with their writing! We are working on the cover, dedication page, about the author, and the first few pages of the book this week.

Math: We are reviewing money, and beginning a unit on telling time. If you have an analog clock somewhere in your house, have your child tell you the time periodically to help them use their skills outside of school.
