Mid-Week Edition October 7, 2020
Principal's Spartan Roundtable
Ms. Harper would like to invite all current SLJH students to apply to be part of the Principal’s Student Roundtable. The Roundtable will provide an opportunity for students to interact directly with her to provide input regarding issues affecting our school. Students may also be asked to participate in school community events. As part of the Roundtable, students will take on a leadership role, serve as representatives for their grade level, as well as provide a voice for student issues at SLJH. Only 21 students will be selected: 7 from 6th grade, 7 from 7th grade, and 7 from 8th grade.
To become part of the Roundtable, students must pick-up an application packet from the front office. (KVA and face to face students may complete the application linked below and submit it to LisaCAkard@katyisd.org) Any current SLJH student (both face to face and KVA) is eligible to apply. All completed applications must be turned in to the front office by 3:55 pm on Friday, October 16, 2020. Students will be selected based on the information contained in the completed application packet.
Application Process:
1. Application period begins Wednesday, October 7, 2020 .
2. Students submit completed applications by 3:55 pm on Friday, October 16, 2020.
3. Roundtable Committee will review applications and notify applicants by Friday, October 23.
News From Our Library!
Your SLJH Library is serving your Spartans and staff on a daily basis from fulfilling devices and book requests through their ELA classes.
We are excited about some exciting virtual events that are coming up and wanted to share them with you.
Tweens Read is a book festival that helps celebrate and promote reading by connecting authors with tweens. This event is virtual from Oct. 19-24, 2020. Students can register and interact with authors. They will learn about the authors’ writing process and about some of the authors’ new books. If you or your student want more information, you can visit the website below.

Author Jennifer Nielsen will visit virtually with FTF (Face To Face) ELA classes on Thursday, Oct. 22nd, at 2:25p.m. If you would like to purchase a Jennifer Nielsen book from Blue Willow book shop, your student will get an autographed sticker from Jennifer Nielsen to place on their brand new book. The SLJH Library will be hosting its first ever Scholastic Online book fair from Oct. 26-Nov. 8th. All orders will ship home and free shipping on book-only orders over $25. Over 6,000 products for sale and all purchases will benefit your Spartans and your SLJH Library. Please be on the lookout for more information in the next few weeks.
If your Spartan LOVES to read and wants to join our SLJH book club, please have them visit the link below or scan the QR code below to enroll in the book club Canvas course. As of now, meetings will be held on Wednesday mornings from 8:20a.m.-8:50a.m. through zoom for KVA students and in the library for FTF students..
KVA & FTF students can request library books through the links below or they can place the book on hold through Destiny Discover in My Katy Cloud. The library staff will deliver books to the FTF ELA classes and KVA students may pick up their requested library books on Thursdays from 7:30-7:45 a.m. in the back of the school. If KVA parents cannot make this pick up time for the requested library books, the books will be left on a rolling cart in the front office from 9:00 a.m.-4:20p.m. on Thursdays only. The library staff will email your student and let them know if the requested library book is available and ready for pick up on their designated day. -FTF students can request library books by clicking on the link below or by placing a hold in Destiny Discover in My Katy Cloud. -KVA students can request library books by clicking on the link below or by placing a hold in Destiny Discover in My Katy Cloud.
